Think twice about using AMD. Chap on here done some research, and found the company that does the box refurbs for them. Went direct to them and saved himself a bit of money.

Got it mapped, it started slipping after that, so MRC down tuned it a bit. Turns out they use reconned torque converters too.

Chester Autos gave me a choice of new or recon TC when I got my box off them. :)

I must admit, I know quite little about Torque Converters, but surely it's a bit likely getting refurbished clutches?

The only term that has any legal definition is "remanufactured". Reconditioned or refurbished could mean a lick of paint. I would only use a ZF remanufactured box.

Unit 20 handled my gearbox rebuild. The box itself was done by Chester Autos, I had several conversations with them during the rebuild as it was being partly funded by the warranty company. That was 4 years ago and around 30,000 miles and it is still working fine.

Am I right in saying Chester autos themselves will take on the entire job. Or are they just a gearbox specialist?

Going to have to ring around.

As it stand I've done nearly 1k and it's only faulted about 5 times since I changed the oil. Definitely seems to do it when its warm too almost as of the oil isn't up to the job.

I believe they are just a gearbox specialist. It's well worth getting Unit 20 to take out and replace as they know these cars inside out and can advise if anything else should be done while the lump is on the floor
