Fuel pump options A6 - S6 - RS6

Post by VETRA » Fri Jul 08, 2016 9:35 am

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of replacing the fuel pump and the filter...
RS6 catalog number is VAG 4B0 906 089 A
while for A6 and S6 - VAG 4B0 919 051 E
And the first one (the proper one) I cannot find in my local parts retailers...

Are they really different?

Anybody knows any good aftermarket options?

It will be down too flow rate on the pumps . Not enough flow and you'll run into fuel pressure problems. So if u can't get hold of the right one, Look at an uprated aftermarket pump. I personally would down grade .

With regards too uprated aftermarket pumps, Have a look to see what offerings Bocsh and Aeroquip have . There are many others and I sure someone else will mention them . Just steer clear of cheap pumps. They never make the claimed flow and pressure ratings . Plus failures are common on them .

Recently replaced mine! Easy job! I know you can make a 255 fit... to be completely honest I don't think the dimensions are that far out so with maybe an hours modification of the old cage it would go in a treat no doubt! There is a write up somewhere of someone using a cage from another model Audi to make a 255 fit in a 2.7 that uses the same tank or nears damn it!

I might be mistaken, but I reckon you mean aeromotive? (Not on the Audi) I've got a pair of Aeromotive A1000s and I'd struggle to recommend them - They're brand new, yet sound like a bag of rocks rattling in a tin bucket. Maybe some of their other ones are a bit smoother, but for large flow I'd probably go with a pair of Bosch 044s setup next time.

My bad Matt. Yeah Aeromotive not Aeroquip. I'm blaming the painkillers  . I Agree they are a very loud pump though . Not heard of them failing though . I guess being a motorsport pump noise levels aren't much of an issue . Bocsh pumps are a lot smoother running and have a satisfying buzz . I ran twin 044's on my last Cossie . Couldn't fault the flow and pressure . the twin set up was probably overkill for a 416hp engine but the trick looking aluminum twin pump and filter set up was aesthetical pleasing. Is a single 044 enough for the rs6 ?

Oouuuups....
Looks like I got the wrong thing...
What I need is nr29 on the picture http://audi.7zap.com/en/rdw/audi+rs6+rs ... 201050/#29
And that VDO is Nr01 http://audi.7zap.com/en/rdw/audi+rs6+rs ... -201050/#1

So the fuel pump is outside of the fuel tank... Isn't it?
Everyday I learn how RS6 is different from all other cars I had (A6, A6, A8, S8...)

So where do I look for the fuel pump? Is it outside of the car, underneath the floor? where the filter normally is?

Oh, and one more question. Is there a fuel pressure sensor that i could read with VCDS?

The fuel pump is located in the tank (G6). The one on the outside is a transfer pump - G23 (presumably due to the shape of the tank).

Try and get a copy of the study guide which shows how they work - I have one, but you might be able to download one from somewhere.

:kissmyrings:
damn..
that means there are 2 pumps? If I have fuel pressure issues, which one do I change?

Ok. found it. Studying... :nodder:

Ok. Now it's getting clearer...
Still the question stays - Is there a fuel pressure sensor that i could read with VCDS?

And also - anybody tried EMS Motorsport Benzinpumpe 8bar 320 l/h 0580254044 0 580 254 044 -- K50 ?

Never heard of that pump, but I guess from the description that it's trying to get into the Bosch 044 market - which is a very popular high pressure pump that's often used for modded cars.

My engine keeps misfiring... The mixture is obviously wrong.
On neutral gear when you hit full throttle from idle it misfires alot.
Then while driving it feels like something is holding the car from going full-power. Something is holding her. And she drives better at half-throttle than at kick-down.
And sometimes SUDDENLY the thing that was holding her releases and my neck muscles get trained.. =)
And then again misfires and poor performance...

Changed spark plugs, ignition coils. Got a little better, but not cured.
Changed MAF sensors. No improvement.
lambdas seem to work - VCDS shows their correction within 3-4%
The intake pressure seems to be fine. So the turbos blow, the intake manifold seems leak-tight. I will record some tests and post results here.
So the next stop is fuel supply system - fuel filter and the pumps...
Do you have any ideas?

Fuel pressure regulator, N75 , Diverter Valves. ? All reasonably priced and worth changing I would suggest.
Also worth checking your injector spray patterns
