Rear lower wishbones help please

Post by CHRISTOPHÉ » Wed Apr 13, 2016 8:06 am

Hi all just looking for some information on rear lower wishbones, basically I have an Allroad which uses the same lower wishbones as the RS6 but they have slightly different part numbers-the rs6 has an extra letter at the end.

I'm hoping that the shock mounting point on the rs6 ones is lower than those as standard on the Allroad but I can't find any information on this.
I'm trying to achieve a higher Spring (airbag) rate whilst running at the same height I want to lower the shock body as its very boaty when lowered because the computer runs the bags at a lower pressure to bring it down. By lowering the shock body I can increase the damper and airbag pressure and when combined with the RS6 arb's I've just bought hopefully it will be a lot better. I know it's not a performance car or anywhere near the standard of all yours but it suits my needs and I do like it. Image

Can't really help with the wishbones question, but that looks like a very clean example you've got there!

Thanks! That was before the wife used it for 9 months when we had our son before I bought her her own one! Needless to say need the wheels refurbished again lol!
Can't wait to get your arb's and exhaust on. Also have a big brake conversion to do this weekend from a 6.0 A8. It should stop now!!
Just working on custom shocks to update the ride.

Hi Christophe. Good to see another allroad! Unfortunately I cannot answer your question from memory, but in the future when I get the chance I will see if I can find out for you. Aswell as my 2003 RS6 I also have an allroad, a 2.5tdi - 2001 model. I fitted my old RS6 ARB's to the allroad after upgrading the RS6 to Hotchkis but unfortunately the rear bar really does not fit properly as it contacts the air compressor and causes a lot of vibration noises. I tried moving the air compressor slightly and a few other things but to no avail. I did a small writeup on the install on another forum: http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/show ... 01-Allroad .
In the end I bought a Hotchkis set for the allroad as well and found them to be a huge improvement over the RS6 standard bars.
I have also done a full C5 RS6 brake conversion on the allroad, front and rear, and at the moment am installing some 380mm discs on the front. The improvement in braking is much required and was a great upgrade.
Finally, I have full decat, a remap and also a tuning box. I believe the power is around 220bhp and 350lb/ft - quite satisfyingly torquey and very nice sounding too for a diesel.
Things were not perfect with this car though, unfortunately it suffered a major engine failue a couple of years after I bought it, so I changed the old AKE engine for a much newer 2007 BDG engine froma Skoda! I did a write up on that too:

Right now I have the allroad in bits again, I have stripped the air suspension and the complete front and rear subframes and am refurbishing the car from the bottom up! It was getting very rusty on the subframes and the old air suspension was pretty much shot so I have brand new replacements to fit. I just went for standard replacements, not Arnott or any other type. I will probably make a thread on the VWAF forum later on when I get the job completed.
Good luck with your upgrades and if you need any allroad advice I may be able to help! Cheers, Angus
