Ask yourself this question , which 2 companies have taken the most gearboxes out of a c5
And they will know what might need replacing before carrying out the work
I hope that's a new TC to be fitted

Re: Torque Converter
fwiw TC's do have a clutch which engages once the engine and box input rpm speeds have equalised.

Re: Torque Converter
I think a chap on here got his box done by the people AMD use, and by the sounds of it the service wasn't great, and the box slipped once mapped.IanH755 wrote:There's AMD in Essex (near Dartford really) who do C5 box changes. I've not used them but maybe others on here who have could chip in with their experience.

Yes, you're right. And when that clutch slips it produces what is called a torque converter shudder.jockthedog wrote:fwiw TC's do have a clutch which engages once the engine and box input rpm speeds have equalised.

I'm the one Jay's referring to above. MRC confirmed my TC was jumping/shuddering on the dyno when they tried to put a stage 2 map (850+Nm) on it. Reduced to 782Nm and it's fine. Exchange Audi box is probably the route I'll take (around July/August time) as going over to Germany for a rebuild isn't an option for me, and I don't want to start replacing parts.

Re: Torque Converter
How about getting a spare box and sending that over to be upgraded? That way you minimise down time on your car. You'd have to ask MRC to see if they'd be happy putting an upgraded box by them in your car but I wouldn't see why not.
