Name that noise!

Post by Rstoney » Wed Sep 02, 2015 4:49 pm

I've been trying to track down the source of this noise. Only does it when the car is on the ground. Also only used to happen when coming to/from a stop, now happens even when turning the wheel at a standstill. Only happens on the O/S/F wheel. Here is a little clip I have made.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a ball joint sticking. Maybe slightly loose steering rack.

I checked the steering rack bolts and they were all tight. Then I whipped the wheel off to have a poke about...turns out when I asked someone to replace all the control arms and tie rod ends, they forgot about the tie rod part. Pretty sure that could be the cause. Bit pissed off. There's a reason I like everything replaced at the same time. Need the car for holiday dog transport on Friday, so I'll have to get someone to do it quick tomorrow!

I had the same problem and I replaced all the arms then I ended up replacing the knuckle and that got rid of the noise..
