ISOFIX

Post by ZacP » Fri Sep 18, 2015 1:07 pm

With my first little one on the way, I need to fit ISOFIX brackets. Does anyone want to sell theirs? Don't want to spend the fortune at the stealers or on fleabay.

Thanks!

Zac

There are 2 schools of thought as to whether ISOFIX or child seats fitted with seat belts are better / safer.

I used seat belts. Lots of seat belts available, and the MaxiCosi base fits with the belt too.

And I fitted isofix brackets for occasional use. Easy to fit and makes switching the bases over a doddle - although I don't leave em in for long since it can mark the leather if you leave em in, and tight, long term.

My son is 14 months now and I was gratefully gifted an isofix bar from another user on here who no longer needed it. I fitted that in my diesel as I thought I would use it more in there and I was right. I just use the seat belt in the RS6 and it is a right pain. I reckon if you get a base which fits in with a belt go for that as the seat will be easy to lift out or in. The idea of isofix mainly is to make sure seats are installed right and if your doing it right you don't necessarily need a bracket. I have also just bought the next seat which is a Recaro Monza Nova IS and that is also fitted either with a setbelt and isofix or seatbelt alone so either way you will have to put it on the same so the bar is handy for peace of mind but not the be all and end all.

Thanks for your replies. I know there are two schools of thought with ISOFIX. We have decided to use them, and therefore need to put the required brackets in the '6.

Any for sale would be well received!

Thanks,

Zac

Would definitely recommend ISOFIX.

We've got bases in both our cars and their grandma's so it's just click and go. It's definitely a more expensive option, but it's really, really convenient when we are all running about. It also means you don't have to worry whether other people are strapping the seats in correctly with the seat belts.

I think the ISOFIX brackets are about £50 each from the dealer for the '6 and bolt in easily.

Also whilst I think about it, we have a full spare system that should be sold really. Car seat, pram, 3 x ISOFIX bases, etc, etc. could be a cheap option for you if you've not already got something. Wasn't really intending to try to sell you something, but if you are interested, send me a PM. We've moved to the next size up basically, so bought a load of new stuff (the Mrs choice).

The bases work with seat belts too. I had a MaxiCosi base until the children needed bigger seats. Very handy.

Ahhhh, the joys of child seats. Just taken mine on the plane on holiday and installed them in a rental Picasso. How cool am I?

Yes bases can be used with seatbelt a in preferred, but if you have ISOFIX brackets and bases there is no requirement to use the belt.
