Electrical issues
Electrical issues
Hi guys,
Apologies in advance if this is a stupid question. Loving the 6 having had it for a couple of weeks now but its come up with a few niggles. Im replacing the GPS receiver so the nav works, and I've had to rewire the iPod adaptor, but there are two things that seem intermittent and a little more serious. Namely the cruise control and the parking sensors. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.
With the cruise it will (occasionally) engage when asked only to drop with no reason a few minutes later. Sometimes it won't engage at all. Could this be the brake switch or something else?
The parking sensors work fine half the time, but the other half seem to think that your about to hit something IMMEDIATELY after going into reverse and emit a loud screeching beep even though you are nowhere near any obstacle.
Could these be related problems? If so, whats the recommended fix? happy to search for the problem if only someone could point me in the right direction!
Thanks!!
Zac

Re: Electrical issues
Dont know if there related, but the parking sensors is a common one.
You have a duff sensor somewhere, and as soon as its powered ( selecting reverse) it closes ( opens ?) the circuit , making the car think there's an object in the way.
Corrosion/oxidisation on the surface of one of the sensors is the favourite.
If you can VCDS the car it may churn an error up relating to the cruise control problem

Re: Electrical issues
Get yourself a copy VCDS and suitable lead and all your questions will be answered. Also you might have a few more after a scan

Avus Avant, RNS-E mk2 with sds and Bluetooth, Milltek, Hotchkis, Bilstein, Forge, ITG, A.C.E, Wagner, FBMFSW, MTM.
Re: Electrical issues
The problems aren't related. Lots of things can cause the cruise to stop working. Brake light switch is most likely culprit.
Daytona RS6 C5 Avant. Viper'd, Billies, Waggers, MTM box brain, C6 stoppers, xcarlink, R8 coolant cap (woohoo)

Re: Electrical issues
Thanks guys, is the only place to get a VCDS Ros tec? Seems expensive for a lead and some software!
Also, might be an unrelated issue, but the drivivers seat doesn't seem to go as low as the passenger seat. Is this normal?
Installed new GPS receiver today. Have working nav! Simple things...

Re: Electrical issues
You can get a cheap lead (from shebay) and use VCDS lite for free. The UK retailers for VCDS is Gendan - its money well spent though. You will get back the money in just a few months of messing around - remember getting a scan at Audi is probably £50 a pop.

Re: Electrical issues
Unless you're close to where I am and I can scan it for you?
Re: Electrical issues
Thanks for the replies. Great to know there is (potentially!) a fix. I'm just off J6 M40. If there is anyone around here with VCDS, I'm happy to come to you!
Re: Electrical issues
Take the car to an Audi dealer and ask them to run a diagnostic, then you'll see how cheap the Ross-Tech cable and software is. It's a very valuable tool to have available to you, especially with these cars. You'll find it very difficult to diagnose faults just by explaining what symptoms you have.ZacP wrote:Thanks guys, is the only place to get a VCDS Ros tec? Zac
If you are just off J6 on M40, then I'd run the car to just off Jn 11 of M40 and go see the nice chaps at MRC! Not only will they do a proper health check on your car, but then they can fix the issues, and even do you a Stage 1 remap!!
Simples!!
