What about the centre driveshaft bearing, or rear diff mounts?

Hi Nobby, did you mean the centre/front propshaft bearing?

Not sure if they've checked the rear diff mounts though, so will ask them to check these as well when the car's in on Thursday.

If the vibrations are oscilating rather than constant, I'd guess it's a balance problem where one wheels vibration is balanced out by another wheel's vibration. When the balance errors are in phase with each other, you'll get the vibration, when they're out of phase they will correct each other.

I'd be starting with a wheel balance check in these curcumstances!

So according to my new found friends at 4 Rings, the problem is fixed. It turned out to be the inner and outer CV joints had zero grease in. They lubed it all up and took it for a test drive and all was well. Thank goodness I didn't have to dive into the RS6 fund again. Now just got to get the steering rack replaced and it will sadly be up for sale!!!! More on that later.

'Tis true but when I first bought the car, I had a feeling I'd struggle with the dated interior and unfortunately compared it to the BMW I had before.

I'm glad I've experienced one and I definitely don't regret it, even though it's tried to destroy my slush fund!! :boohoo:

Which BM is that then? Cos I find my M3 interior much less sophisticated than my Rs6 one.

glad to know its fixed, mine has started with a similar noise, can see grease in the passenger side alloy wheel so assume its the same, is this the place you took yours for reference

Hi,hope you got this one cured but I agree with Shop, had similar fault on a mark one A4 that turned out to be the gearbox end driveshaft cup spline worn and allowing the inner end of the shaft to wobble around under harsh acceleration, took some finding
