Propshaft Kaput

So, under heavy acceleration and cruising at 140km. There's that infamous rattling vibration. Asked the mechanic what it was and he said the carrier bearing was toast. Ah well... so I've been looking for a new one since he wants to replace it with a used one. For this country it's normal, for me unacceptable. After about a month and a half of research pricing them out from Audi and other sources I came across a company that makes a single piece carbon fiber propshaft for the same price as oem. What are your guys thoughts on this?

Carbon prop shaft on a 1900kg AWD car with 850+Nm. No thanks and best of luck. A small part of my brain thinks it 'might' be ok with a slushbox but I know MRC have completely shattered one on a B5 and that had a lot less torque. There's trailblazing and there's the complete unknown.
A old friend and his dad were almost killed when their Mk2 (Mustang shape?) 4.1 Cortina dropped the prop shaft at 110Kph, it did a front-flip onto its roof then slid into a line of highway lighting poles.

I had the same problem on my old RS6. This side of the pond Audi only offer a complete shaft replacement. However in US the central bearing is available as a separate part.

My good friends at MRC ordered the part, and then were able to make up a tool to press the old one off, and the new one on. Cost was about £150 vs £1000 IIRC.

So, not sure what country you are in, but if you have a good general mechanics Shop in the area, and access to the net, then you should be able to get it sorted for a lot less than a new shaft.

Bam_bam- You have a built monster I'm still running the slush box and the torque is only 750nm so hopefully it's not too stressful.
Daveperc- I'm in UAE so we'll say the level of maintenance is... I only use one mechanic who is a prior 10yr Audi mechanic so far he's proven pretty reliable.

So, merry christmas to me finally got my carbon fiber shaft,

I'll probably get booed off the forum but what the hell I always wanted one and it was the same price with shipping for a brand new one from audi. Here are some pics of it once installed I'll let you folks know how it goes. It shows 5kg on the scale but it's off by two to the negative so I'm going to say the total weight is 7kg. I'm pretty excited yes bam bam this is the complete unknown. Ahhh what we do for the sake of science right?

Hope you guys enjoy as much as I did in finally getting it.

Always good to save weight, and will reduce rotating mass, too.

What torque is it rated to?

No center bearing? Not necessary?
