Exclusive? My RS6!

Post by MartynC » Fri Mar 04, 2005 6:24 pm

I see Audi is now supplying (at no extra cost) RS6 style wheels on the new A4.

They did the same thing with the RS4 'exclusive' wheels some time ago.

Am I being mardy or are they devalueing top end models again?

Have to say I don't have a problem with this, but then I want my RS6 to blend in and look as inconspicuous as possible, and have had mine debadged etc.

Ours are anthracite/titan though Martyn, so they should stay exclusive for a while longer. It got me thinking as to whether you can get your wheels Teflon coated as they would look pretty cool and also both resist and disguise any brake dust.

Great to hear "mardy" again. Nor 'eard it since I wa last in Il'son.

Hi Adam

Yes I guess your right and perhaps I am being mardy.....Clipped one in Prestbury strangely enough by that stupid double mini island in the village, guy too far over. Repaired now but it was a bit of a job for the bodyshop to match the semi-gloss finish. They've made a good job though.

I just put car polish on mine every now and again to help keep them decent, seems to work. Done 10K now, going better all the time.

Cheers for now

Martyn

I had mine done with the same autoglym stuff they did the paintwork with and it's great. Brake dust just rinses off. Didnt stop me scraping the nearside front wheel though (- funnily enough, also in Prestbury). Does anyone know if the Titan finish is harder (ie dearer) to repair?

that one thing thats bloody infurating is the fact that every vag car now has the 9 spoke RS4 wheels, even the A2 but i don't think the RS6+ alloys will become that wide spead its about the only thing us anaroak's spot the plus's on the move.
By the way Martyn i'm still offering a straight swap  other wise i'm up for adoption if i can get the od spin in the Plus

Martyn, Yes it was the 'Macclesfield Prestbury' (quoted recently in the press as the snootiest village in the UK I believe!) but no less infuriating. Titan finish is the dark grey. At least I think its called 'titan'.

Steve, nice of you to offer the swap but I'll stick for now, much as I like your Noggy 4. Next time I'm in Aberdeen I'll call you or Frank and we can have another beer and your more than welcome to go in the Plus!

Gord, I used to go out with a girl from Prestbury and she wasn't snooty at all! In fact.......well enough of that I guess! Few years ago mind!

Well if , like me you paid £XXXk + for a 'top of the range performance car' and then offered it back to the dealer and was offered 20% less than purchase after 8 months useage then you might feel that your RS6 is not so exclusive and that the Audi network of dealers , L****rs in particular, are taking the p*ss- not that I've got the hump or anything.

How many times have I told my wife to be careful about the wheels! Egg on my face today (she doesn't know yet) as the inevitable happened.

Parked on drive to get youngest son (still strapped in babyseat) out and placed on front doormat to watch my impeccable parking. Normally I stop in front of the garage door I'm about to open, only this morning I stopped near the front door - don't ask me why! Reverse a bit, realign for other garage door (now open) and proceed slowly. Wing mirrors normally have about an inch to spare on either side, so focus on driver's side one to calibrate. Mmmm, a bit close I think, let's turn the wheel slightly - dull bang! Foq! Managed to cag the wheel on the garage door's metal "gasket" (can't really describe it any better)

So one of those lovely Titan alloys is now Titan and silver. Will be out with a soft pencil until I can get it sorted. Any spotters out there will see my face red with embarrassment and possibly emitting a soft glow at night. (Don't know if that complies with Contruction & Use regs). Martyn - Would appreciate details of where you had yours repainted.

In the meantime, I did some searching on my Teflon coating theory and got this email back from one company (although it won't prevent what's just happened to me):

"Please take a look at the link below.

http://www.fluorocarbon.co.uk/article_m ... e_news.asp

we have developed a material for the purposes you have suggested and it has been tested by Motorcycle News.

I have also coated my own MPV Alloy wheels in this material and it is standing up very well to the wintry climate, salt, brake dust etc.

I'd be happy to discuss this in more detail with you."

Cheers

Adam

Prestbury Cheltenham - about 100metres away from where I am sat now. The Spa town - I love it. Full of the Irish next week though for the racing.

Have only seen two RS6's in Cheltenham. One is always parked in Montpellier and the other was in Charlton Kings Yesterday - sat and looked for a while trying to decide if i would ever change to the 6. Maybe in 20 years ( i was only 30 a couple of weeks ago :assflash: )

Also a coupls of RS4's in the town, A misano red one and the saleman from Dixons decorators mercahnts also has an Avus beast.

Still struggling to decide what wheels to put on my car, Might buy some RS6 rims and get them sprayed.

Tom
