Hesitation

Post by mavada » Wed Jul 02, 2014 3:21 pm

Hi all,

Went for a spin today and noticed a whining sound and occasionally ticking sound coming from around the rear wheel area, not constant, but for little periods.
Sometimes suddenly louder.
Noticed also on full throttle a huge hesitation, couldnt get more than 3000 rpm, gearchanges are smooth, but couldnt reach kickdown.
Didnt had a Phone with me to record the sound.

Looks like fuelpump?, cos of the area the whining is coming from, and the hesitation?
Dont know the above is typical for fuelpump faillure...?

Ah, not good. Could be the bearings or brushes in the fuel pump given up. The symptoms make sense.

I think mines on the way out because it occasionally makes quite a loud noise when you first turn the ignition on in the morning for like half a second then settles down. Probably waiting for the most inconvenient time to fail!

As Amanda says. Annoyingly they don't have the nice connectors which just pop off, but have jubilee style clips.

No the fuel filter is on the outside of the car on the floor plan ie underneath the drivers and passengers side doors.

Reference fuel pumps, is it always the case people replace with an OE part?
I seem to recall Bosch 044 pumps mentioned on modified/performance cars ( not specifically C5 RS6's ) - Wondered if this would be a recommended upgrade should the original part fail ??

Good call on the Bosch 044 pump. Loba sell a few different models of the bosch pumps. The 044 is good for 650hp while maintaining 5 bar by the look of it. Would be interesting to see what the spec of the audi pump is.

Loba have added the special Loba RS6 tax though by the looks of it! Ebay!

I don't fully understand if the 044 is additional or standalone pump? Does it require the OE pump to run it? Just wondering if it maintains its own pressure, or if the OE one works with it ( and therefore needs to be functioning @100% to validate the 044).
In addition, if a car has been mapped with the std. fuel pump, will a tweak be needed if a greater level of fuel is being supplied via a modified pump ?
