Had the same on mine, RCA filters are the way to go. It dropped the volume of whine 95% but if you listen very carefully you can 'just' about hear it at idle with the stereo muted. As soon as the cars moving or the stereo is playing music then you can't hear it anymore.

I tried everything to get rid of the alternator whine on mine including rewiring the amp and stereo and in the end the only thing that worked was an RCA filter.

Mike, was your whine there from the beginning or did you fit the MMI kit by any chance? Mine only started when I shoehorned in the harness gubbins in the centre console for the MMI and connected it. Doing my head in but if memory serves there is a bit of a loss of fidelity when using RCA filters non?

Definitely. The filters will affect your sound quality. You definitely should try to get rid of the whine through conventional means first.

I had a ground loop so sounded like alternator whine and only started when I fitted aftermarket amps using the original Bose wiring for the low level signals. The input to my processor was fine but the output introduced the noise.

I have a Dension Gateway 100 that was linked up to my RNS-D. Used it to play Apple Lossless from my ipod. For sale if anyone wants it. Also have the RNS-D and a 2005 RNS-E gathering dust. Give me a shout if anyone is interested.

Hi Talleyman, sorry for delay in replying, i just had to check I had all the bits. Unfortunately the Dension wont work with the rns-e. looking at the back of the old RNS-D and RNS-E, the plugs are totally different.
