Yes and yes but mine had been rebuilt twice before I decided to try across the pond!

I guess it will very much depend how you drive it.. I won't be tracking it, drag racing, or performing traffic light Gps in it.. I'm mechanically sympathetic, just want a decent estate car that's different with good power.. Ideally that can tow.

As said car isn't homolagated for it as gearbox is at the limit.

Looks like the rs6 does It all apart from tow, I'm prepared for yearly maintenance of 1-2k but reading some of the stories here seems like you need to be prepared for maybe 3-5k which is too much for a road car thati'd only be doing 8k miles a year.
I will not even count up what I have spent on mine as it may just upset me!!

maybe 3-5k
I have spent that plus this year and that's without what my warranty company have paid for.

I imagine if you drove one you'd be hooked!fortunately or unfortunately there are none for sale anywhere near me currently

I was but have not regretted it.....not one single minute of ownership, best car I have ever ever had. Smiles per miles just sums the car up :)

950 nm torque!

It is a bit grim, but I am convinced that the previous owner was a bit of a cock with more money than sense. Traffic light GPs will seriously shorten the gearbox's life. Especially in a stage 2 car.
The launch control on even the Nissan GTR and BMW V8 can only be used a handfull of times before the gearbox goes belly up!!
Fortunately I do have mechanical sympathy and fully expect this box to last for a long time. . . .

. . . probably shouldn't have said that!!!!!! :bash:

El Ringo wrote somewhere that you can expect to spend about 30% of the purchase price on the car in the first year of ownership (and that was when these cars were costing about £15000 to purchase).
I bought mine 13 months ago and have spent £4K so far and about to spend another £3K to get her somewhere very near to where she should be.

Worth every penny.

Interesting reading, thanks guys.

I think... I'd only be prepared to pay that sort of wedge a year if I didn't have other expensive hobbies - mainly circuit racing! I'd be happy enough to work out a grand or 2 (and maybe a one off 2 ish k bill) a year to keep something like this maintained.. But any more than that would probably boil my piss.

In reality, a B7 S4 or a more sensible 535d touring (that I have been thinking of) probably fits the bill more.

I can't help but think if I tried one though.... I might get hooked! Thankfully (I think) there are none for sale here

If I were you id go with the 535d it sounds more up your street it ticks all your boxes.

As has been said prevoiusly these can be ruinously expensive to run, you could get lucky and not have a big bill for years but most likely it will cost you a small fortune at some point.

I bought mine for 12k and have spent 8k in the first year and I rekon it gonna cost me another 5k this year if nothing big goes wrong.

But I wouldnt have anything else!! Its a 165mph v8 4wd car that this morning took my old xmas tree to the dump....

Guess I'm lucky, I use my E61 for the above and the RS6 for hooning around. :beerchug: TBH the E61 can be fun too with the traction control off but it eats rear tyres. It also lacks the grunt and presence of the RS6.

I guess it depends on how you drive it.

If you use that hp everyday then yes, you're probably going to need all of the above with tyres, brakes etc etc.

If you're prepared to take it a little easier then I would say that they can be cheaper than the £4k listed for a year.

I will say that once you've driven an RS6, moving to anything without an R before the S seems rather tame in comparison!
