A6 4.2 Blistein B8 sprint shocks on RS6 avant

Post by gmac78 » Fri Dec 06, 2013 8:10 pm

Hi guys,

As per the thread title has anyone fitted A6 4.2 Blistein B8 sprint shocks using the standard DRC springs as a cheaper alternative to fitting coilovers? If so is it essential to uprate ARB's. How would the ride be with just fitting these shortened uprated shocks and leaving standard ARB's.

I don't do any track days, just looking for a comfortable day to day ride.

Trying to gather all the info i need just in case i need to go down this route soon.

Any help and advice much appreciated.

Cheers
Gordon

Bump, surely someone has gone down this route before? Or is there a reason these shocks are not fitted?

Any advice much appreciated.
Cheers
Gordon

The problem is that this is a major downgrade. I suspect that's why no-one has done it.

Agreed but just to add, I think that the vast majority of buyers have up until fairly recently, had a good idea of what they are getting themselves regarding running costs. This means that people on here probably didn't heavily consider more generic 3rd party shockers over ones at least load/performance rated for our cars.
Current:

Gone:

"Brutus"- C5 RS6 Avant - MRC stage 2 - Milltek non-res + 100 cell cats - Wagner ICs - PSS9 - H&R ARBs - OZ Superturismo LM - C6 Custom brakes - HD RNS-E - Various other bits - 555PS/832Nm
"Taz"- C7 RS6 - MRC stage 2 745PS/1095Nm

The reason i ask this question is because my brother has an 2006 RS4 V8 which shortly after buying had DRC issues, he replaced the DRC with Blistein shocks only rather than the full coilover setup and much prefers the ride. It's more forgiving on the road but handles just as good as DRC. He never upgraded ARB's just replaced the shocks and used the standard springs.

So is it worth spending extra money on coilovers when decent Blistein sprint shocks may be just as good for day to day use. No tracks use in mind just sporty handling for a daily driver. Just a thought but perhaps the extra weight in the RS6 might be an issue?

Try it if you like. You might get the ride you want. But at the sacrifice of handling. If there was a magic way to get sports car handling and Cadillac ride comfort with boggo shocks and springs they wouldn't keep trying new fangled DRC, active shocks, etc.
