OP: I'm in Joburg at the moment if you want me to cast an eye over the car. I have no flashing kit with me though, but am willing to cast an eye over it and lend a hand

In fact if you've got a VCDS cable, i can do a fair bit here. If not, you could order one for a few bucks....

After pulling the engine out, I found that the "spurt" stole all the genuine parts, cut the harness, cannibalized both turbos hence the smoke. The turbo was spewing oil :knob:. I re- made the harness. :audibash: were useless. They couldn't supply the correct lambda harness plug with the electrical terminals. Loooong story short, shorted all the hardware Rich Viper'd it and she was running like a beauty :beerchug: unfortunately she's bitten and the coolant fan is now being a real pain in the :assflash: . The joys of performance cars.

Bloody hell, sounds like some testicle-tazering is in order for that chap! Well played sorting as much as you did yourself. How is this remote ECU mapping done exactly guys? Obviously I don't need it but I am curious.

Problem is, if you don't delete it properly (blanking off plates and mapped out) then you will have the check engine light on the dash which could be hiding other faults. At worst you will be letting unmetered air in.
Had this problem with mine.

The pump was playing up & kept on throwing up "Insufficient flow bank 1 / 2" or something like.

Had the SAI pump mapped out but physically the pump is still in place.

This was all done by a local VAG tuner who's supposedly done plenty (VeeDubs anyway, not sure about 6's) about 5 months ago.

Everything has been fine since; no EML showing until 2weeks ago when it mysteriously showed after a cold start (same scenario as when I was originally experiencing the problem); had it checked and sure enough it was showing as the SAI again.

Stormed back down to the VAG tuner demanding answers and was told that some things just can't be mapped out of the ECU  .

He reckons not to worry as there is a solution to the EML coming on by splicing a resistor of some sort into the relevant section of the loom, they've got some in stock & I'm booked in for the work on Friday, no charge.

I was a bit sceptical about all of this and was questioning their mapping skills but they've assured me that it's quite common for this to happen and the resistor will sort it; they reckon there's a company in the US selling thousands as it's so common. Hmmmmm.......

I'll go along with it for now and see what the 6 is like after Friday.

Yeah, resistor? Read my earlier posts. Didn't work for me but as you've seen I had mega problems. From experience, if a make do fix is used, something is wrong. My sai is disconnected but the vacuum cleaner is still there. You can't take the pump out without the warning light. Maybe try and connect the plug and see what happens. The loud air blowing last for less than a minute when you cold start and you don't have the aggro of the warning light. I think it's worth a try especially knowing the bull I was fed by "spurts"

Sounds like that "spurt" needs a spurt from a high pressure hose up his :assflash:

I used the alientech powergate that rich from viper recommended. You code it via the alientech website selecting your car. You then plug it into the obd, follow the instructions and it copies the map. I had a revo map done years ago and they locked the ecu and I couldn't get a copy of the map. I couriered my ecu and TCU to Rich in Douglas(from johannesburg) Money well spent.

Thanks for that but confused, is the remote mapping when done that way, bespoke to the car like a MRC map or one where I go out with my mapper sitting in the passenger seat tweaking it throughout? Is it just a generic uprated map like a Revo job?

The remote map is a generic one. Won't give you as much power as a custom map. Rich can tweak the map remotely if you send Vagcom logs, but it's a bit of a faff and I never bothered. The generic map will tide me over until I can get my car to Mihnea @MRC again for a custom tune.

Thought it was as I looked up the programmer specs, thanks
