Potential purchase

Post by chrissy1502002 » Fri Sep 27, 2013 11:29 pm

Good evening people, I have been lurking on here for a few months now and i thought it was about time to say hello! I currently drive a TT 240 Quattro Sport and I am looking to change into an RS6. Ill start by saying that i have a daily car that i use so the RS would be a weekend toy.

My only real question/hesitation about buying one is down the the gearbox. Now ive searched on here and found some really good info, however the only thing ive yet to find is:

If the box is replaced, how reliable are they? i.e. do the new/replacement boxes have the fault rectified or does it just prolong its life?

Anyway thanks in advance for any help!

All slush boxes in any cars are just ticking time bombs. If the box is replaced with an exchange one then it's rare to hear of problems. Not rare to hear of problems on boxes repaired or refurbed by "Spurious Bob the Box Botcher" or similar.

This was one unlucky owner http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-RS6-Avan ... 4769598%26

From the description, "There are 2 major things that go wrong with these cars, Automatic gearbox and Hydraulic suspension. The Auto gearbox has been replaced with a brand new factory unit costing over £5000.This was carried out by Wayside Audi 08/06/2009 102597 Miles. It was then replaced under warranty 25/07/2010 109225 Miles at Milton Keynes Audi" Just over 7000 miles from a new Audi supplied box that's got to be a record.
