Re: RS4 B7 to RS6 C5
Funny, I'd go the other way in a heartbeat lol...
For a C5 in particular I'd try to get one with a known history here on the forums. That or get someone who knows these cars in and out to look at your prospect(s).

Re: RS4 B7 to RS6 C5
The RS6 is much bigger inside than the RS4. A standard RS6 will be about as quick as an RS4 that's making its power, but the RS6 will feel quicker because of the turbos.
The RS4 is a bit better on fuel because of the direct injection. Probably 22mpg (real not DIS) is about as good as you will get with an RS6. Be wary of people claiming 30mpg. Probably not that different from the RS4.
I wrote a short comparative on the RS6 / RS4. I'll try and find it.

Re: RS4 B7 to RS6 C5
Bear in mind that the RS4 in question dyno'd at almost 400hp so was quicker than most.

Re: RS4 B7 to RS6 C5
RS6 bang for buck tunning potential much better.

Re: RS4 B7 to RS6 C5
very nice write-up on the comparison, i was actually curious how the results would be like if you put head to head these 2 cars, as i was at some point looking for an RS4 as well, considering these, unless you want only more space, i'd make the jump from RS4 straight to C6 RS6, it would be a win/win situation, you get a lot more power and bigger and fancier interior than you would in the C5 RS6...

Re: RS4 B7 to RS6 C5
Thanks for the replies guys.I would love to keep the 4 and charge it along with big wheels and slammed to the floor etc but work is thin on the ground at the minute and the change to a older cheaper to buy car would give me that little bit more back a month but still keeping my passion for big fast audi's alive.Unless everyone wants there cars giving full correction, detail and protection then il will keep the RS4

Re: RS4 B7 to RS6 C5
Not sure that going from an RS6 to an RS4 is going to give you a saving. Realistically, probably the opposite. Maybe you should consider something like an M3 e46 or a Focus ST.
