I'm thinking of doing my own when it goes. Would be good to hear some stories of this box though to see how it stands up to the task. Needs to be in a non standard car though, think 12" could kill a box pretty quick.
How's Mr Dee's package doing????

Ben, just noticed that you say you will need the car for 3 weeks? Would it not be easier to purchase a gearbox (faulty from fleebay or somewhere) get it sorted and have it waiting in your Shop ready for blast off? This would basically mean that a customers car would be off the road for max 4 days, pretty sure you would get alot more business this way.

Morning,

The standard box we have here ready to go (as pictured), so there is not a long wait on this one.

For the uprated box this would be carried out on your own box and unfortunately will take 2-3 weeks. Maybe if there is alot of demand for the uprated version we may do the same with this.

Ben, you could consider holding a gash box in stock so that it could be sent away for "upgrading" for a customer (to a particular spec if needs be) and then you call the customers car in when it's ready. That way the customer may have to wait a few weeks, but isn't without the car for that time. It saves the customer having to source (and later sell) a used box. This is what MRC did for me - I got their "spare box" upgraded in the US and they then swapped it into my car and had my old one as their spare at the end of the process.

Your investment is then only one "used" box - ie £1K or so - rather than having several grand of working capital tied up.

Ben, I hope you are getting as excited (sexually or otherwise) as we clearly are at the prospect of all of this! ;) I am sure that word will get around if this is Ronseal and the prospect of having both a standard and bombproof box ready to go will seem like small change/hassle fo you guys.

Has anyone heard of superfinishing? It is supposed to make components last up to four times longer by removing the imperfections of moving parts. Sounds like just what the boxes need. Even if it isn't applicable to our boxes, it is an interesting read anyway.
