Taking RS6 C5 abroad

Hi everyone!
Holiday season is upon us, so I was wondered how many of you have ever taken an RS6 C5 abroad.
If you could share some experience, any reliabilty issues, break-downs, if any (hope you you didn't have any), what break-down cover you used and so on.
I did a few trips on my previous 320D coupe, 1100 miles one way (France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Czech republic, Slovakia and back) it was always a pleasure, although tiring, especially on german autobahn! No issues with the car, averaging 45+mpg (I really miss that...) even when mostly doing 90-100 mph.
I'd like to try Mr Wolf on long run, see what is it like to have 450bhp and no speed limit

I took the rs6 to germany through France,Belgium and holland ..... No probs whatsoever ever and will do it again just make sure car is serviced and maintained and get aa/rac cover .........you will be fine so go for it

Tyres can be tricky to find sometimes. A spare may take up a chunk of room but could save you getting stuck in the sticks

I can't agree more on that. On my BMW one tyre was slashed as some skunks tried to rob me (did not realized that at the first place, thought I suffered a puncture, a guy from tyre shop explained to me what has actually happened, showing me where the holes were, thank god I had runflats...), did not have a spare and I lost 2 days of my holiday waiting for a new tyre.

Will AA/RAC cover a 9 years old car with 100k on the clock? And what do they do if you suffer a breakdown that can't be fixed on the road?

Yes they will and if it cannot be fixed at the side of the road it's off to the dealers (can take up to a week to fix but hey you are on holiday!)unless you want recovering home!

have just checked AA website and cover is about £60,god knows how i ended up paying that much unless it was for the year!!.

Took mine down to Monaco and back last year, only one prob was i lost a wheel balance weight one day so thought getting it re-balanced would be a doddle. I thought wrong, 6 garages and two days later i finally got it sorted out. As ringo said i took a spare in the boot, yes the Metropole hotel valet in Monaco looked at me very strangely as he un packed our boot but god was i grateful of the spare as we hit some very good roads while it was on. I heard of someone the year before had broke down and the tow truck charged 45 euro per mile and as he was in the sticks he didn't have a choice so prob a worthwhile investment to get breakdown cover.

That must have been a nightmare, breakdown abroad. Was it an RS6? Do you know what went wrong?

When we drove to alps last year, my mates car broke down when the box went... €175 to be taken off motorway, €175 to be taken then to garage, €1500 to be towed back home as gearbox had gone, €200 for hire car to drive home... thank god he'd paid the extra £50 for european recovery from the AA! His car was home within a few days of getting back, went very smoothly, we only lost about an hour waiting for the first recovery truck and hire car so that we could continue our journey, and they then sorted everything out behind the scenes and gave us the occasional update via phone with what was being done and when. worked a treat.

That's an excellent service! Box went and you only had to wait for an hour? I would almost say it sounds too good to be true!

Not to put the dampers on, but you'll find that there are speed limit's all over Europe. It can be very painful if you get caught. The French are the worst as they'll just take you to the nearest cash point and demand money from you. Thanks to someone in our goverment you can even get points on your licence now for speed in Europe. So be careful out there.

I've taken mine down to Alicante and not had a problem at all, although my windscreen cracked because of the heat about a day before I was due to head home. Got it fixed shortly after getting home.

There have been rumours of this for years, but I have yet to see any evidence that anyone has ever been done.

Worst case, the fine might find you, but I think even a half-competent solicitor could get you out of points for offences committed abroad.

Biggest risk is getting caught doing silly speeds. They might confiscate your license or even the car. This is what worries me the most. So far no parking / speeding fine that was collected abroad has ever found me.
