Plump it up

Hello all. I've searched and have not been able to find anything useful about this one.

I have a Plus with the natural leather and the main bottom leather panel on one of the seats seem slightly different to all the rest of the leather. On all but this panel the leather seems 'plump'. So when you press it it creases as you'd expect something of substantial thickness too (see first pic). However when you press the panel in question it creases in an almost papery way. This means it is more prone to getting crack marks (second pic).

I had an E46 M3 a few years ago and the seats were like this. Do you think there is anything I can do to plump it up? Plenty of Liquid Leather conditioner? Or some sort of leather rehydrating oil juice?

Do you reckon it's a replacement panel? It looks exactly the same as the rest of the seat but just seems sort of papery.

I'd go for a couple of treatments of liquid leather, on a warm day.

Yeah nice one I did that. Seemed to help slightly but still kind of papery. I'll keep applying thin coats when it's warm.

Someone recommended some Swissvax stuff to me the other day. According to him, better than the LL. It's ridiculously expensive though.

A lot of people I know swear by Gliptone. I'm probably gonna invest in some soon, but I haven't seen the results with my own eyes.

+1 for Gliptone ; Used the leather cleaner several times and think its great
If the Swissvax leather care products are anything like their waxes, then they should be good

Ive got the same seats in my Plus and they are a bit of pain sometimes.. As with yours they have a "plump" issues and also a few stubborn little marks. I think its just the way it is... Mine looks like an old English style leather settee. I find they mark quite easily and looks somewhat worn in places but I like it and it looks v different. That said when I use the Gliptone LL conditioner (monthly) it comes back quite a bit which then leaves a lovely leather smell for quite a long time. I have also used the leather conditioner from Autoglym which is fine. This leather is totally unique I have never seen anything like it it any car and v much different that modern cars. Worth treating.

Thanks for your advice - I've used LL for years and think its brilliant.

Incidentally when I got the car the seats were quite shiny and had a green tinge. I gave them a clean with LL cleaner and a wet towel and they came back matte and (almost) black and like new. I used two bath towels to clean the grot off and they were completely black and grotted when finished - the amount of gak and clart that came off the seats was ridiculous. And now they look completely different. They used to be sort of dark brown with a green tinge and shiny - now they look almost black and completely matte and almost like new. I've had to apply lots layers of LL conditioner since.

Do you think this could be some sort of waterproofing lacquer that some dopper had applied? Or just years of bum grot?

I remember another post on here that I can't find where this green colour was likened to an elephent's scrote.

Seriously though have any of you seen this shiny greeny <beep>? Maybe as you say it's just dye (that shouldn't be used on undyed leather).

Sorry, I meant dye from jeans. Perhaps natural leather does change in time due to moisture?
