Hi all.
Its got to that point in RS6 ownership where not a lot of us want to be..... Does it stay or go..... Privately or trade.....
My rs6 Daytona avant was bought by myself August last year as a toy... I have a company van and the misses busses to work. But with the offer of a new job for her, a car is required again and unlike some we just can't justify running a 6 for work.
So here's the deal
We've decided, I think to step down for a few years in the car front, thinking about a mini cooper s, happy medium on fun and fuel economy and great for what the girlfriend needs. And if job goes well, in 18 months or so, re enter the 6 world and buy a plus.
Mini offered £7000 for ours and with the 80000 mile mark quickly approaching then the £1000 cambelt is looming along with the gear box service. So what's the thoughts on the price offered. Also I could do with a quickish turn around as the new job begins in four weeks.(private or trade it??) Does or has anyone kept their eyes on how quickly these cars are selling recently. Just thinking that chopping it in will save me a lot of hassle and agro. But slightly less return.
Any advice would be welcome as its driving me mad what to do. Details of car as below

Have you tried those cu*ts at We buy any car.com?...I'd imagine they would be offering around the same cash as your trade in are...£7k in the hipper will get you a better deal than £7k trade in.

OK - for my money I'd forget the MIni and go for a Focus ST - more space, fantastic performance for the money, and almost certainly cheaper to run.
Personally I think £7K seems very low - I'd get it fettled at MRC and then sell via PH at a sensible price.

How about getting a proper small car like an A1.
Roughly £3000 down gets you payments of roughly £220 per month with 5 years / 50,000 miles servicing included in the price and for a nice spec one… (miles per annum does make the monthly input vary).
In my book beats the Mini hands down for quality...

Be warned MINI Cooper S if driven spiritedly fuel consumption can be as low as 20mpg Especially if you go for the Works version.RsMagic wrote:

Just list it on Pistonheads for £9,000 and it will be gone within 4 wks and you'll be £2k up

Looked at both for the misses last year.
A1
+ Points
Better build quality and good value.
The 1.4 TFSI (122) engine is really strong on performance
Probably good residuals.

Steering has no feel
Need to choose your model carefully.
Fuel economy is terrible for the 1.4 TFSI (I had one for a week when the RS3 was in the garage averaged 35mpg where I would have got around 28 mpg from the RS)
In the end we got a cooper S for about a grand more than the A1 Sport (122) special deal from mini at the time. Also the cooper s is doing an average of around 40mpg.
I am off to hide now........

What to do?
Thanks for all the responses guys. It's making interesting reading.
Granted to those comments above about the offer of 7. But taking into account the money I need to spend on it to then go on and try to sell it it seems not too bad. Any way the offer is now 7500 for mine so here's the way I look at it. (keep the opinions coming a shoot me down if required)

+£300 gearbox service
And some other bits and bobs
Which in my mind makes the offer sort of to be a value to me of 9000 ish give or take, what iam going to save by trading it is worth a lot don't some of you agree??
And also the hastle to sort it out and keep running it to then go on and try and sell it and also maybe only get 10 at best with the current market (just my opinion) seems a lot of hastle oh and then also when Iam at that stage still find another car.
Whats your thoughts.
Ps. Taken on board the MPG thing. I know it may not be the best but at same time when you want some fun it's there and when you go steady it can return ok. With running a 6 it's not going to feel too bad. I think ???

As you say if your car needs a lot of work doing to it then the trade in offer is pretty good.
If you do go down the MINI route make sure you get one with MINI TLC (free servicing 5 years or 50k which ever comes 1st)
you can upgrade if for £300 I think to 8yrs 80k.

I just hope that they finally have the QC down. My sister has owned a Cooper S (57) since new and the amount of things that have gone wrong on it/recalls have been shocking. It has only done 40k miles and things like engine mounts have died already. Seriously, engine mounts? So many things have gone wrong with it that the only one I can remember is the mounts due to just how poor that was.....
Also, please for the love of god don't be seen driving it. Whenever I pass a Mini/Cooper S I go to great trouble to mouth the words "Woman's car" to the driver when it is a man. Can't help it. I have needed to move my sister's one off my parents drive a few times and on each occasion I have refused to get in it and had another family member move it for me

Focus ST every time for me, Mini's are beyond common, vastly overpriced, not very reliable in my experience and hugely douchy. Don't forget BMW service costs/rape and snobs thinking there is no value in the car when selling on if it hasn't been serviced by BMW.......
