Worn key

Post by yorkrs6+ » Fri Apr 13, 2012 12:04 am

Probably discussed before - but my key - the plastic casing - ie around the three buttons - looks v tired. scratches', buttons look worn etc.
So I popped into Audi dealership (parts department) and asked if they sell replacement key housings...
I kind of new what to expect....
£175 all in all - they tell me they have to recode a new key/housing is not sold separately, and gave me a load of waffle...
Surely there must be another way ?
They offered me a clip on cover instead - £35 - I said wood sooner put that towards a new key..
What has everyone else done.

Thoughts?

Really? I thought at £6.99 it'd be OEM perfect?!?!?

I have to agree about the quality poss being poor but what do you expect for that price. I think the more expensive £15 one looks worse from the ad pics than the cheapy one. I have just grabbed two of these instead to play it safe for now - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/REPLACEMENT-3 ... 4ab18488f5

I bought one a while back and they are not quite OEM (slightly inferior plastic) but much better that the tatty old one I had. Works fine with no issues - do however note if you DIY the immob chip is tucked in to the front part if the key and the car won't run without it! I found this out the hard way but luckily did not loose it - £££££ if you do! Looks like a small black paracetamol tablet if that makes sense!

My old key had a red PANIC button on the side but never figured out what it did - any ideas? Pressed it a few times but nothing?

Excellent feedback

- bought one of the £6.99 versions
watching some of the genuine Audi ones.

I knew there had to be an alternative to spanking £175 on a new key from the dealship!

Not a life changing purchase but perfectly good quality for the money. Had to do a couple of tiny bits of of minute shaving for a totally flush fit (being anal) but looks near as damnit oe and a doddle to swap.

Help, I've bought a pair also but can't see how to take the fob apart to replace them. Got it in two but that's about it.

Cheers

There is a a screw behind the Audi badge for the front part - apart from that it should just clip apart. Some monkey superglued mine so took a bit of fettling but easy. 3 little clips holding the pad on but straight swap
