It would be interesting to see what difference the Wagners make in performance terms on a highly modificed car. On a standard car they make no difference.

If heat soak is your concern then better intercoolers seems like a no-brainer to me.

Hi Shop

Surely that;s because without adjusting the map there is no way to take advantage of the freer flow of cooler air. On a mapped car the inlet pressure can be tweaked to take advantage??

It's just that at the low boost pressure of a stock map doesn't create very high charge temperatures, so the standard IC are correctly dimensioned for a standard car. When you run higher boost, you drastically increase the charge air temp and that's where you see the benefit from the larger heat transfer surface area of the Wagners.

The Wagners weren't on my shopping list as my standard ones were fairly new and not leaking. But because I've got 60mm intakes, the standard ICs would actually become a restiction. The Wagners just flow a lot better and in most cases (modified cars) actually give an extra 20-30HP.

The Wagners are good value for money, especially if you get them without the carbon shrouds; They are barely more expensive than the OEM crap.

the carbon shrouds are a bit oversized compared with the OEM shrouds that have to be modified non?

The OE shrouds have to be modified. I did mine with a stanley knife.

Hi Stephen,
When was your trans built up, was it before Sam left to form 517trans?
Also, would you mind posting up a dyno of your beast in current tune? It'd be interesting to see what torque you're running, HP is nice but it's the twisting stuff that kills the 'box.
The trans was built 14 months ago, so no...I think Sam may have left. That said we, as in a group of Audi owners are doing a Maha dyno day, w/in month. I will post up mid feb.

Btw, the pic of the sport tec mod is half right, everyone that does the mod uses a galvanized wire mesh, as I have. I have run the vents for over a year, snow, rain debris no issues. Also as mentioned, meth, meth, meth...it's insane when dialed into the tune.

for those interested, visit V8weight post of 29 March 2010 at
http://www.rs6.com/showthread.php/20630 ... ht=cooling
if you wish to see the modified sport tec undertray cooling vents with screens and 'how to do it yourself' drawings and instructions. Screens a must to quote V8weight "It said on the package it should repel not only stray rocks and road debris, but also chickens and rabbits."!
V8weight post very helpful. This undertray mod is highly recommended for warm weather conditions.

Bugger, I had read various threads on the mod but not that one. I might look at getting a spare undertray and run a vented/meshed one for the warmer months and swap back to full for the cooler ones. Will give it a while and see how I get on with the heat soak on prolonged runs I guess.......
