yup
but, with voice recognition, its fine, as long as you know the street name
i use the voice recognition all the time to input nav destinations ... its surprisingly good, quick and accurate

Yes agree, once you've got the location in it works well. However, I seem to frequent places (
) with no street names so its a bit of pain sometimes.

Gone to the dark side
Re: Excited new owner (almost!)
I thought the new A8 supported full postcodes?

It does.MoRS6+ wrote:I thought the new A8 supported full postcodes?
The new generation A6, A7 and A8 with HDD Navigation plus and MMI touch do support full UK postcodes.
The trouble is that we're the only country in Europe with a possible 7 character postcode. EVERYBODY else in Europe has a 5 digit one. So rightly or wrongly the systems have previously been designed to accommodate 5 digit zip codes.
However the A4 or A5 or Q5 with HDD Nav does not.
I never find it a problem but in the future it looks like they've got it catalogued.

Re: Excited new owner (with an actual car now!)
Wow. What. A. Car!
So, I've been driving around for a few weeks now - took the car down for a mooch round the Festival of Speed (no, didn't take part in the hill climb) and had a good mix of driving and it's very very much fun indeed. I had a Monaro before this and the RS6 is so much more civilised so am happy with the move to automatic for the first time.
A few things I need to get sorted now I've had time to get to know the car. It's running on coilovers (not sure which brand) and is both very low and very very harsh - so I'm wondering whether raising the ride height slightly might soften the ride a bit? Also there is a suspension clonk occasionally so I'll book a trip to MRC for that to be looked at sometime - it's only occasional so not terribly urgent.
I did try to get a price for the cheap china made RNS-E replacement and gave up after a couple of emails - they seem to be interested in bulk imports only. So I took everyone's advice and have just finished installing a proper Audi RNS-E reconditioned unit instead. Wow - such a huge improvement over the RNS-D. Just waiting for some music to copy over to the SD card and I'll be off out for a spin
I was wondering whether to get the 3rd gen RNS-E but it's all a bit pricey so I'll stick the the 2nd gen for now then maybe upgrade to 3rd gen a bit later if I feel the need for iPod integration (not interested in the Alpine aftermarket solution for 2nd gen as I want the UI to look authentic).
I followed the usual RNS-E instructions for the most part but went off piste a little bit - I plugged in the original GPS antenna from the RNS-D and that seems to be working fine - plenty of satellite coverage so I presume the supplied new GPS antenna is just for those cars without RNS-D fitted. Also I removed the TMC/CAN Gateway module, removed the outer part of the connector and managed to pull the cable back through to the head unit area where I soldered it to the RNS-D to RNS-E adaptor CAN Lo/High pins and joined the two ends of the FM cable. That all seems to be working nicely now and is showing DIS, respecting lights & ignition on/off etc.
Fingers crossed the CAN Gateway doesn't do anything else... I presume it's just to supply Infotainment CAN and RDS-TMC data to the RNS-D unit.
I also bought a VAG-COM cable and have had a bit of a play with that.. couple of intermittent engine faults which I'm hoping to clear and they will not return - gear box and everything else is not reporting any errors although I would expect errors from the TPS (one sensor is missing) and the intermittently working rear parking sensors. More time needed to play with that I think...
I've also bought some DI-NOC carbon fiber vinyl and will be applying that when I get a bit more time. I did come across some pics of an Audi with that done and it looked really good - can't find the link now but I'll put up some pics when I've done that.
Right... time to go and try everything out now. Yay!

Re: Excited new owner (almost!)
Hope your goin to get a peach of car!
Im quite a new RS6 owner myself - suffered the gearbox rebuild but another thing to check for is corrosion. Warm the car up with some spirited driving, turn it off, take the undertray off, turn it on and let it idle for 20 mins and check for any tell tail drips! I recently had a coolant leak and she is currently off the road for an ATF leak, both due to corroded pipes at the bottom of the the engine bay. (ahhhh hindsight vision is always 20-20!)
