Bit of ATF help

Just wondering if there is any update on this? how did you get on? Any more tips from experience to share?

This service is going to have to be done on my car after I got an ATF leak from pipe 4B3317817E

More corrosion! and just after I got her all patched up after her coolant leak

Im going to be getting this service done hopefully tomorrow, I have a few questions

Is the bung/filler cap replaceable?

Is there any extra parts needed to do this service or is it just a special pump and ATF?

What is the ATF spec for the gearbox?

It's pretty much the same for the RS6 without the difficulty of getting the pan off.

Yea I've read it but I wondering if the parts needed are the same for the RS6? (part numbers - unfortunately I cant seem to logon to vagcat or even create a new account to verify)

G-052-162-A2 ATF Fluid (have 8-9 quarts on hand, you might use a little less), use ONLY Audi fluid

Peugeot or Citroen will probably be the cheapest. It's all the same stuff.

You need:

5 - Gasket - 01L 321 371
8 - Plug and seal - 01L 321 371
10 - O ring - 01V 321 379
28 - Strainer - 01L 325 429B
29 - Gasket - 01L 325 443

Don't think anything else is necessary.

quick update, i didnt change the filter, i just topped the box up after replacing the cooler, and the two pipes from the cooler to their first join ( because they were corroded to the cooler) i also changed the pipes from the oil filter block to the cooler. i then found the rear seal leaking , which i am getting mrc to do next week, and to check the fluid level again, unfortuantley i can not get any more ramp time to do the seal. i understand that a modified flange/ seal is available, but mrc seem to think just change the seal and not to bother with the modified parts?

i used a syringe from screwfix to get the oil in , which cost £8

i had someone in the car doing the gears and watching the temp on ross lite whilst i filled the oil with the syringe from below, great fun !

Sounds a bit odd that you wouldn't fit improved parts unless there was some kind of drawback?

Normally when parts are superceded the old ones aren't available anyway.

will let you know after monday , as i trust mrc although i have never used them, they always had a good rep when i was driving the rs4. i did ring them again to double check, perhaps the modified parts are not much of an improvment ? will let you know in due course.

Yeah, I think you're in good hands with MRC. You getting anything interesting done while you're there? Gutted precats and tune to 550HP?

i would be happy with containing all of the fluids at the moment . i am getting a health check if i have time, would like a miltek non res to please the neighbours when budget permits !

I have got a price from Audi here in Dublin for the oil - 15 + VAT Euro a litre

Citreon have a price of 8.95 + VAT (this is for the 4HP20 gearbox)

This seems grand according to the ZF pdf on what gearbox oils to use, but im just a little apprehensive about ordering it as the price is around half and the guy at citreon parts didnt recognise the citreon oil number ( Z000169756 ) he said it wasnt in the correct citroen format.

Is this the correct oil?

I see that the part number is the same for Peugeot. Why don't you try calling them?

I was speaking to guy in Citreon parts and he was very helpful, he also used to work in Peugoet parts. He said that that "part" number was out of sync with how citreon on peugoet number their parts. He said it was most likely a "product" number, not something which the parts departments deal with - more what the manufacturor themselves would deal with.

He said he was 100% sure that it was the correct oil the 4HP20 gearbox, which according to that ZF pdf is in the same product group as our gearbox, and would therfore be the same spec as ours.

Having paid for a refurb already on the gearbox Im super cautous about being stung again... what is setting of alarm bells is the differential in price (I though mybe 5-10%, not 40%!!) and that if that pdf is not correct about the part number, therefore I am worried that it might not be the correct spec for the 5HP24A gearbox.

Maybe I could just be overreacting... has anyone used the ATF from citreon?

if you want to be sure, go for the original instead of citroen/peugeot...its more expensive but you are sure its the right one.

Looking around the web, it seems that the oem part number is G 052 162 A[x] - Where [x] = The amount you get

G 052 162 A1 = 0.5 L plastic bottle
G 052 162 A2 = 1.0 L plastic bottle
G 052 162 A6 = 20L cuboid metal drum

Looking at my own 20L drum (still half left over from when I did my A6 4.2 ATF change), the part number is indeed G 052 162 A6. I presume I can use this same stuff for the RS6(?)

I bought it from Hatfield Audi, but can't remember the price now. But was ALOT cheaper than buying loads of the 1L bottles!

The parts guy tried to deny it existed at first, trying to sell me the (expensive) 1L bottles - but soon changed his mind when I gave the part number.

Basically, I want to verify if the above part numbers are for the RS6 as well as the A6 4.2, but pretty sure it is.

Wonder if Shoppinit could confirm?
