That's kind of what I'm thinking... I had an Alfa 166 on a W plate (2000) that used a twiddly knob to enter addresses a letter at a time - so last decade! I loved the Pioneer AVIC F930BT for the short time I had it in my Monaro, although it didn't look right sat in the middle of the dash with acres of space around it. I have a feeling the RS6 would suffer the same issue and just look ..well, wrong.

Cheers, that might be useful. Has anyone successfully fitted the 3rd gen RNS-E and got it all working in the Rs6? Hopefully with the right boot up logo. I'd like to go for the newer version but it would look very shoddy if it boots up with the wrong logo. Or is there a generic logo? Lastly do I need a vagcom to install it or is that just to tweak a few settings? It does sound like those might be worthwhile purchase.

Just paid the balance and will be picking up the car tomorrow afternoon - Yay! Just have 3 and a half hours of train tedium to endure first to get there - Poo!

I still think you're mixing up your RNS-Es. Check the production dates on the on all of the 2010 models, pre-“a certain month” (I think it's May although I'm not sure) and it’ll be he old hardware, anything post that date is the new 3D jobbies. “PetrolDave” over on the B7 forum is very knowledgeable on this subject and has already put the new 2010 RNS-E into his B7. Also, I believe there is a generic boot up image.
Enjoy that drive home, remember to remove the smile from your face or people will think you’re a <beep>.

I think there a few eBay sellers trading on that confusion too, possibly trying to pass on the non 3D versions with a vague description. Take this for example - I can't work out if it's the proper new version with updated H/W. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUDI-A3-S3-RNS-E- ... 765wt_1141

Anyway, I'll get the car first then check out the RNS-D and see if it's up to much. There's a few weeks grace period whilst I'm happy enough listening to the V8.

I admit it is confusing - this one looks too good to be true http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUDI-A4-S4-GPS-NA ... 56431b2505 at £300 notes plus whatever the facia costs it'd be awesome value if you’re willing to take the mocking on here if it turns out to be a dud.
That said, I could live without the 3D bit, I looked at DK's TTS gen iii unit and it didn't look true 3D but the resolution was gorgeous.

Well there you go, too good to be true... good spot, golf. Was there something in the text or just the look of it?

Theres all sorts of chinese clones out there such as:

or this:

or this:

It was both the pictures and the word "aftermarket" that gave it away mate!
Always insist on the part number and a snapshot of the info screen to truly confirm firmware.

yeah the TTS wasnt 3D, but the one in my S4 is proper 3D ... i.e. it even has 3D images of famous landmarks, like football stadiums etc

Yep - that's right - but you've got HDD data. The RNS-E new gen still does with the DVD data, but the really attractive part about the new gen model is that there is proper AMI for it.

I was trying to look into this as I really want OEM but proper i-pod or hard drive integration for music and this won't work with the previous gen RNS-E.
