Ordered the Xenon blue 501s from Philips for a tenner just to see if they match the headlights. Will post pics.

^ Just ordered two sets of those along with a set of Osram Night Breaker Plus H3s fog lights, details here.
These side lights look to be just what I want, LED-like colour temp but non-LED reliability.

UltraLED on right, Philips Xenon Blue on left...Blue? Seriously? IPMSL

Back to LEDs then. I'm going for the other end of the scale - the quad stacker skyscraper tower from my earlier post. That'll do it, and the sales guy said heat won't be a problem, which will mean it will.

Are these the ones you ordered?

I honestly don't care anymore. I'm sick of having my hands in bits trying to put another UltraLED into the cluster (I'm onto my third replacement in as many months now).

Looking forward to seeing how the new fog lights work though.

Yep, those are them. Worth a punt for a tenner, but not what I was hoping for. I can't see any blue whatsoever.

I know what you mean, I forgot what a pain in the arse fitting these little phuquers is.

So I put those Philips 'blues' in tonight and yes they are yellowish, very noticeable with one of each in. I will miss the white LEDs but I won't miss the mashed up hands swapping out new LEDs every other month.

I'll put the new fogs in on the w/e.

I've had the 'quad-stackers' but they didn't fit. I'd be interested if there's another type that will fit.

Hmmm. . . what to do about the colour temp of the high beam ights!? Short of going HID which I am loathe to do as the tangle of wires and inability to properly "flash" etc.

Anyone found a solution? LED's for high beam? Can it be done?

Bam Bam how did the H3 fogs turn out? What are you running as high beams? Or are they standard?

I only have a mere S6 but pretty sure it's the same regarding bulbs at least, so I thought that you might also like to know about these LEDs too:-
http://www.hids4u.co.uk/led-sidelight-bulbs/

I've used this company before for other stuff/ cars, and found their products excellent - also their customer service which is always a good sign. :) I will definitley be ordering sidelights/foglights and main beam upgrade from them for my recently purchased S6 but will have to speak to the company first after reading about the sidelight issues experienced on this thread. By the way, the link also shows an LED Resister kit too which may sort out the problem that some have experienced. Will come back on this as soon as I have an answer - hopefully over this weekend.

The H3 fogs got a lot of use over the last two weeks. Way above OEM spec but I somehow get the impression that two candles mounted in the grill would out-shine the OEMs. Kinda pricey for non-LEDs but a good upgrade if you travel through a lot of pea soup.

I'm wondering if we might be able to twist Rupert's arm(s) and persuade him to yank one of his led sidelights out of a cluster for identifying, as he commented to me the other day that he has had a pair in there for several years without issue. They looked the business!

Well, strangely they have worked without issue for years in the RS6, but I forgot to mention I installed another set in another car at the same time and they've both blown. I think it's luck of the draw. :o
