Andy - I agree it could be the ECU limiting it and yes it does happen in 4th and 5th only at 2700-3000 when the torque/boost is max. However, my car has developped it and it used to not do it so I think there is a boost/vac leak and/or N75 solenoid.
I will let you know what I find....and if I get time I could swap the MAFs - good idea!
Hesitation as boost increases - MAF O ring seals?
