I would agree with Mooch on both counts - price and what an M5 is like. First few drives (and when you are on its case) and they are great, nimble, agile, rewarding, feel fast etc. Long term when you drive normally (like 90% of the time) you will get sick of having to wring its neck to go anywhere half fast and the feeling that you are screaming it to death to travel as fast as a RS6 which does same 2000rpm on a wave of torque. Each to their own....
Let us not start this again. It's been discussed ad nauseum on here and the 'other' forum. Please do a little search rather than dredge it up again.Gravitypilot wrote:just out of interest... what is the book price on a low milage 03?
If you were being funny, then carry on...

True the M5 sounds rough when idling, nothing can change that. But, when you get on the road its a whole different story. It sounds lovely. Yes it hasnt got the torque surge of the RS6 but thats not why im selling. The M5 is a gap car until the C6 becomes a reality, thats it. The M5 im looking at is also a bargain so i can afford to take the risk.

In all fairness bilko, 100k miles is nothing on these- it wont stop me from buying another one- albeit one with history, buy one from the forum and you can almost gaurentee tthat it has never missed a service, engine or gearbox, never wanted for anything, infact, most things arew sorted before they become an issue. If your average mondeo had the love lavished on them that these do, they would go on for ever!
eddies car is one such car, had i been in the market for one right now, it would have been on my drive a month ago.

bilko1 wrote:As a potential buyer of an RS6 yours is spot on Eddie except the mileage. I know it's not an issue especially with a v8 but there's something about the 100k barrier that a lot of people including myself have problems with. Yes it is anal:) but who ever buys it will be getting a very good example.

I used to think that until I drove through the 100k and it just doesn't matter if it's been taken care of. They'll do starship miles and just keep on giving. Besides, you've got a warranty and that'll cover pretty much everything that'll go wrong. I'll keep mine in warranty until 150k. So.. this makes it no different than a 60-70k miler. But you can still buy a dog 40k miler, if it's not driven, serviced at crap Audi shops or had corners cut on things like cambelt changes then it's a false economy spending all that dosh on a low miler. Get a forum car, it's the best car history you can get. All the trials and tribulations are well documented in real-time on a searchable forum. Once purchased, everyone knows the car and more about it than you do. I should know, I’ve been through it. Darth (my car) has been on this forum a long time, there’s a wealth of info on it. Buy a non-forum car at your own peril. High milers, like you said, there’s something about it…. It’s all in your head and it ain’t the car.
My 2%.

i was out in the m3 today ........ topless god i miss my rs6 only conciliation is that's she is with martinCornishmoocher wrote:Eddie, you are discovering that no matter what you or anyone else says, your car, no matter how good, is only worth what someone will pay for it. As I found out with mine.
I'll tell you something tho.... you will wish you had never sold it. Especially after living with the M5 for a while. I nearly bought one 2 years into ownership of the 6 and had it for a weekend test drive and put nearly 700 miles on it. Very disapointed.........

BUT ...
for many people the 100k barrier DOES matter ... its reality ... and I think one of the key reasons is perhaps not so much questioning reliability of the car, its more when they think about when they need to sell it on, it will have 120k, 130k etc ... now thats an even harder car to shift and will require a bigger discount ... so its all got to be taken into account by a prospective buyer ... hence the barrier
