Mate, without sounding like a killjoy, I think you need to steer away from the RS6. Just like a Sunseeker, only buy one if you can afford two. Being stretched at £10k is no way to start RS ownership and I think you should stick to the safer S4. Like I said. I don't want to sound like I'm pissing on your chips.

I think these cost are the worst case scenarios, but then that is what the OP is asking for.

Mooch has huge bills, mine has been less but probably not much less per mile!

The point is a Ferrari 355 might seem as fast, but just try combining that performance with the practicality, particularly as Avant and you see the strain some components are under.

Brakes for one thing need to stop 2 tons plus compared to 1.2, and it does double as the most fabulous family car or the market.

Like the guys are saying you won't regret a penny, so long as you as happy with the running costs and go into this with eyes WIDE open.

a good warranty will soften the blow - mine still has an extended audi all-component warranty, and i'm making full use of it to iron out the last little niggles, before going with a third-party warranty.
these cars are 5 - 8 years old now, and are complex beasts, so at the very least the odd duff sensor or rattle here and there is to be expected.

consumables can be carefully managed - some guys on here are reporting 35 mpg and brakes lasting 40,000 miles (maybe not here, but the guys stateside on rs6.com). But in reality, 20 mpg average is possible, i suppose.

in terms of brakes - its genuine only for the fronts, i'm afraid. there's a cheaper option of phaeton rear discs (but i wouldn't go for it). fronts are either plain or drilled and around £450 to £700 the pair with pads.

i did some careful budgeting before buying my rs6, but at the end of the day its still a risk, but with huge enjoyment factor....

£460 for discs and pads seems a bit more manageable. Where's that from. I used to buy parts from the US (when exchange rate was 2:1!) are there any good Audi spares suppliers over there?

Thanks for all the frank responses guy's, I'll report back with my finding's later and the price. All I know is that its grey Avant done 115k with 10 service stamps and will be at trade price?

I'll need to factor a couple of grand for possible repairs.

I'll let you know.

Cheers Ed

I bought my RS6 about 2 months ago, looked at a few but settled on this one.

Had a full audi service history, last service was the cambelt waterpump which was £1500, just had the alternator done, new set of tyres, had receipts from day 1, receipts for DRC replaced etc....so handed over me money!

So after 2 month ive spent nearly £3k on it............

DRC went after 2 weeks, replace with coilovers
Replace f+r brake pads
Replace front abs sensor
Replace driver side cv joint
Replace all 4 wheels as they were bloody reps!!!!

Not a very enjoyable RS6 experience. I bought it as ive always wanted one and thought if i didnt get one now i would never get one!

Car is spot on now, no faults at all.....but think im going to part with it, i will never get back what it stands me, but luckily who ever buys it shouldnt need to spend anything on it.

What's the point, you've spent the money , why not enjoy the car now ??
