1/4 mile times + petrolhead experience

Post by chesney » Sun Jun 20, 2010 8:34 pm

To give the car a little test and see how healthy it is I took it to Crail today. Was hot and there were loads of Leons there and one in particular was pretty rapid! Saw it do a 13 sec and when I went up against it he got a way better start and crossed the line just before me.

Left before I could get a printout but looked like the best time was a 12.6sec @ 112mph. Not bad considering the hot weather, full tank of fuel, 3 baby seats in the back and gearbox friendly launch's! I bet with a good launch, naff all fuel and no baby seats or passengers it could be better but happy to leave it at that

Then had single seater experience at Knockhill. COuldn't believe how busy it was and there were 25 people in our session. Its had a lot of development since I was last there 10 years ago.

Was fantastic and I managed to win the driver of the day trophy LOL! Chuffed to bits with that  Really badly wanted to stay in the car and would prob still be going round if they'd let me. Like go-karting on steroids!

Well done mate, that's a pretty impressive time. I was there March 28th and the best I managed was 13.2 @ 105mph.

Are you running standard?

If you go onto www.crailraceway.co.uk you can check you times out and other.

Your times below;

Run no Time Driver Car
10 12.760 sec Ross Jamieson Leon K1
26 13.073 sec
46 12.950 sec Owen Will Leon Cupra
61 12.867 sec Peter Urie Seat Ibiza
79 12.944 sec A Morrison Ibiza Cupra
186 12.767 sec Ed Astra Cdti
230 12.874 sec Rich Leon Cupra

They've got you down as an Audi R8.

LOL an R8. Must have been my dodgy handwriting. So the official times are up and it wasn't quite a 12.6 @ 112. I was going by the wife's eysight on the display after each run LOL!

Mine has a map on it but not sure what 'actual' power is but guesing it must be quite healthy.

I can't believe those Leons (FWD) are doing the 1/4 mile that quick... That's pretty mental.

Edited to add that my missus treated me for Father's day to the Silverstone experience so I'm choosing to do the single seater. I bet it's great fun.

I meant to ask the guy in the leon what he had done to it. It was well ahead of all the other ones.

I think the heat was affecting the car. Might be some truth as my first run was early and the car was cool and it looks like my best time.

Single seaters are really good fun. Had honda blackbird engine and 6 speed box with paddles/clutch. Hardest part was getting the gearchange right but once you get the hang of it it all starts to come together.

The times posted above for the Leons are not accurate.

I had the red one which did 12.95 @ 115.1mph, and the white one you had a go against did 12.92 @ 112.8mph.

These were the 2 fastest SEATs on the day, and both have a raft of mods to approx 370bhp on standard engine and standard turbo as well as chassis mods to cope with the power.

I had a loan of my workmates Racelogic data logger yesterday and even with the really high temps up here yesterday my standard car did 0-60 in 4.7secs, well chuffed and confirms my thoughts that the old girl is running like a mouses watch.

Good to know they weren't standard. They were very impressive off the line as well as outright grunt. Nice looking cars too. Drove the std 240bhp Leons at Knockhill and they were good fun. My starts were laughable by comparison although I blame the auto box as it was a pain to get some rev's up before the lights went to green.

Might have to speak to my tuner again LOL. Said he could give me a map that the current fastest 1/4 mile std engine/turbos rs6 has and that runs sub 12 sec runs! If I get it I'll pop back for another go. The TCU/Box ECU has to go back for tweaking too.

I think the times above are all my times and the other lane/drivers details minus times. Seems to be the way they list it on the website.

Got a warranty but doubt its that good :!: . If it breaks I'll get a new box for it, hell I'd prob do a manual conversion if it did.

I drive it fairly gently most of the time and its had a gearbox service so hoping it doesnt let go. Certainly feels ok and no signs of any problems. Will be servicing it regularly in the hope it keeps running fine.
