I think it's a great buy for the price. Just put the money that you are saving from buying another motor in a safe place and splash it out when repairs are needed.

Dunc
previous- Pug 205 gti, 306 gti, 309 gti Goodwood.
Audi S3, S4 V8 avant.
Porsche Macan Turbo.
Gone but NEVER forgotten - C5 RS6 Misano red avant.

Now - Empty garage

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there!

just found out that it needs 2 new belts @ 1500, due a service @ 500, new pads and disks all round @ 1800 so thats 4 grand off the bat.......i think that it would need to be well south of 10k to warrant taking a punt in it. what do we think? andy

BUT, you could buy any RS 6 that needs that

so, if you pick it up for £10k, its costs you £4k and you have everything in order for a couple of years besides one off failures

moral of the story is, its not cheap to run an RS 6, no matter how cheap you pick em up for....

to think anything else is foolish

i agree with all of that, but i would rather spend a bit more money and get something with 60k miles not 100+ as to fix they cost the same on either car.......so i think that 9k sounds about right, it also needs a scratch repairing so there will be 500 there.....

AFAIK - Normal RS6 seats have piping usually contrasting in colour. I can't see that in the pics, plus the natural leather seats have a slightly rougher looking texture and are very dark brown in colour rather than black. It's worth checking as they were an expensive option and apparently wear better than the normal nappa leather.

Looking at the photos again though it's difficult to tell.

124,000 on mine with one owner. Replace DRC, check cambelt replacement and make sure gearbox is serviced. Whatever you do go to a specialist outfit to look after it as it will save a fortune. I am looking forward to the next 100k.

Good shout, mbrooke. There was someone on here that was well into 200k miles and going strong. These cars are strong! But abuse will kill them quick.

Like DK says, if you put new disks and belts etc on it off the bat, then you're clear for the next few years (well, months ;) )

Plus you can get it done cheaper than that;
Daytona RS6 C5 Avant. Viper'd, Billies, Waggers, MTM box brain, C6 stoppers, xcarlink, R8 coolant cap (woohoo)
///M3 E46 | XC90 (V8, natch) | Passat GTE | RR Classic V8 flapper
"The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at and repair."
