Hi Gents - future RS6 owner checking in
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Hi Gents - future RS6 owner checking in
High miles don't worry me on a car like the RS6. The engines are relatively bullet proof if looked after. There was someone who posted that theirs had more than 200k miles.
Daytona RS6 C5 Avant. Viper'd, Billies, Waggers, MTM box brain, C6 stoppers, xcarlink, R8 coolant cap (woohoo)
///M3 E46 | XC90 (V8, natch) | Passat GTE | RR Classic V8 flapper

Not to add to the OP's conspiracy theories - David K is one of the most straight-talking chaps on the forum too. His general advice is spot on.
On brakes, I can vouch for them costing (from Audi) £1k+ for discs and pads for the front. On the cambelt service, My car ended up with a bill for £2,100 thanks to a leaky water pump having rusted a bolt, so the car was in for two days with the front off.
If you're buying one, buy one that's had all of the big bills paid for recently. Don;t worry about tyres, good ones are roughly £145 each which (I gather) is the same price as tyres for some Mondeos!

Don't underestimate the value and relevance of a warranty on an RS6 - an Audi warranty that it!
GregR1s cambelt service cost him an extra c.£1k for a water pump etc which would otherwise be covered under warranty. The other major costs which are likely to fail is the DRC, Gearbox and Intercooloers. Alternators alone are around £750+..........
The flipside is have a repair fund set aside for any unexpected problems, i'd say around £2k but if you can afford more budget for more.
In 4 months of ownership of my previous saloon it had over £8ks worth of warranty work done, including the box, rad fans, sensors, xenon bulbs, climate panel, battery and other bits. So not to be ignored.
If you want to put an Audi Named Component Warranty where there isn't one already it will cost £2,700 plus 2 hours labour beforhand to see if it has any faults prior to approval.
I'm not on the DK payroll btw but it's a gem, owned by enthusiasts, never been compromised, no expense spared - and 10 months warranty!
It's the only RS6 on the market that can give you total peace of mind.

I think the general advice seems to be, find one cared for, with big work done, and an Audi warranty is the icing.
These should be paramount rather than how many numbers is has on the odometer.
I know it might seem lile theres a conspiracy (lol), but its only because the car's previous owners have been / are members of this forum, and so people know the car well....its got nothing to hide
Its nothing do with me, its the car...its a gem

Morning Gents
Just having a quick coffee at work so thought I'd log in to let you know I haven't run off!
I do appreciate everyone's valuable input on this topic and I am trying to find some time to go and see DK's car.
Right, back to work - Millteks don't pay for themselves!

Ash,
I owned Dave's car after SteveH, and can confirm that this is a great example and has had no expense spared on maintaining it. I am sure you will not be dissapointed if you go and see it. I am even tempted to buy it again myself

there you have it, 4 of the 5 previous owners are members on here, and all have good things to say about the car.
cant get any more robust history than that!

Update
Nipped out at lunch to see a Daytona RS6 at a local-ish dealer.
Nice car, looks to be in excellent condition - just a quick once over - and at a pretty good price.
Does come with indy Warranty; I've just spend a few minutes doing some research on the warranty provider. Christ! Scared myself half to death reading the horror stories and typical avoidance tactics employed by these cowboys. So, what have we learned...Audi warranty is a must have!

my other dream car has always been an SL55 AMG, and now they have come into my price range I was seriously considering one, but couldnt find one with a Mercedes warranty and so wouldnt touch a 5.5l V8 Supercharged car with out a warranty with a barge pole
unless I had deep pockets
Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Hi Gents - future RS
That's the one. Nice looking car, the chap was friendly and helpful. I have read some less than favourable things about those chaps though and did get the old 'to our knowledge' line. Do you know the car or the dealer?MoRS6+ wrote:Is it the one at Fontains?Ash7 wrote:Update

SL55 - mate of mine has been looking, I did some research on it for him and found some horror reliability issues and monster repair bills - £15K!! - for some poor fella who didn't have a MB warranty. Scary stuff.
