Brake problems

Post by crazymazy225 » Wed Aug 12, 2009 7:51 pm

I have had the car for a week now and i think have made a serious mistake by letting the local tyre shop centre, replace front genuine audi discs and ferrodo pads. When i get to 80 ish the vibration through the steering wheel is really bad. I have taken it back 3 times and have had the wheels balanced times 3 and the brakes stripped and checked. Took it out today and the same problem although when the vibration started i touched the brakes and it disappeared - weird ! I have now booked it into a AUDI specialist not Audi themselves tommorow. Any input appreciated as i am really concerned !

Check the mating face where the disc sits.
Any dirt or rust on that facing will throw the disc out of balance.

I will see what the garage say tommorow. Was your problem after brake fitting or h+r first ? I thought the h+r actually replaced the suspension ?

Got H&Rs on mine without any brake issues?!.. Sounds like a brake issue i would have thought, maybe something inadvertently damaged / miss fitted when the H&Rs were done?!..

Also are you getting a shudder at speed or while braking at speed?..

No idea whether this is true or not but I was chatting to someone a couple of days ago about skimming discs and they thought that discs themselves are also balanced??? Also, he had been told that wheels can be balanced ON the car to illiminate unbalanced driveshaft/hub/disc etc.

Anyone shed anylight on this I've never heard of it before but it does actually make perfect sense.

Update

Post by crazymazy225 » Thu Aug 13, 2009 3:13 pm

The Audi specialist examined the car this morning and reported the discs are warped. I have taken the report to the original garage that fiited the discs, they very good and have taken the car to investigate themselves. There conclusion is, if the discs are warped then the car will go back to an Audi main dealer for a warranty claim on the discs, which is fair enough. I gave them the option to supply the discs only which i would have got the Audi specalist to fit which would no longer be there problem. But they want to sort the problem out themselves. Will keep you informed.

nekrum - Shuddering badly when braking from 80.

jd_hants - Audi specalist could skim the discs but no warranty at all against future warping. I paid for new discs so this is not an option.

Common problem on these discs. I have had two brand new sets and each time one disc was warped?!

The garage has now agreed the discs are warped and have ordered new discs for tommorow. I have told them to use Audi pads this time at my cost just in case ! Next time i think i will bite the bullet and let main dealer suppy + fit. Just want my Hearse back !

there is more to this than meets the eye.

i have had no problems and know of many more peeps that have the H&R's with no issues, its impossible to feck up. To warp a set of disks, especially the C6 disks you have to be a loon.

i recently TRIED to warp a set, TRIED to get brake judder, and all to no avail.

I would be checking bushes and bearings, drop links and arms.....

hi guys answers to the above 1 at a time..

crazy

h & r were fitted at the same time as new brakes and iv had 3 sets of brakes since and still have a bad shudder when brakeing from high speed.

nekrum

it only happens when braking from high speed.

id hants

yes disk are balanced and wheels can be balanced on the car which im thinking of having done but i have had wheels balanced more than onece and it makes no diffrence.

cornish

yes the car has had all uprated brakes taken off all the way round the car and all back on standards the shuder is better than ever but you can still notice it a little bit when brakeing from high speed it is livable now but not right i cant get my head round it but it use to do it at 80 mph but now only does it at much higher speeds. something aint right as it never done it befor h & r and new brakes were fitted i am still going to take it back to the last garage truck align they are top top people at aligning all sorts of cars and trucks but dident want to waste anymore time on it untill i had the car put back on its full ariginal brakes..........

My old discs were skimmed and put back on. Worked perfectly
