Brake pads, which ones?????????

Post by piooly » Thu Jun 18, 2009 8:57 am

Ok so my rear pads are starting to get quiet low so I want to buy some pads ready so that I can fit them. Question is which ones???

I read on the forums that the standard OEM ones are a Pagid RS pad, which number? 42'1, 15 ??

Is this true, I would not expect Audi to use padgid pads on a road car. I have tried a few different types of pads on my Lotus I used to have and found one of the best value for money was the New Yellow stuff pads from EBC. They have recently re-developed the compound, now called type R and for road and track use they were very impressive. All the fellow lotus track drivers say that the Pagid RS 42 & 14's are streets ahead of the yellowstuff, but to be fair I would expect so for 1 and a half times more money!

I know brakes are important but if the OEM pads are not pagids, then I may be looking to fit a set of the yellowstuff pads as an upgrade. If the OEM's are pagids, then yellowstuff would be a downgrade. Can anyone clarify this? Money is always tight so I dont want to fork out £400 for a set of front pads if I can help it.

As far as I know the pads on it at the mo are the OEM ones and although they are a bit crap when cold after a good few stabs they seems very powerful so cant really fault them.

Standard fit on the front of the RS6 is indeed Pagid (they are often referred to as Pagid black, but I understand this to be a different compound to the aftermarket Pagid Black range).

You should not be paying £400 for a set of front pads - the last set I bought cost me £180 incl VAT.

Can't comment on the 'new' EBC Yellowstuff, but my past experience of EBC has been far from ideal, with very poor cold performance.

Pagid Grey's are excellent but unfortunately come in at over £400, just.
