Was It The Fastest RS6 In The Country??
Was It The Fastest RS6 In The Country??
Keep spotting stuff stating "The Fastest RS6 in The Country" & am really wondering how this is measured & decided??
Not saying i had the fastest RS6 or making any such claims as to who has, but i'm struggling to work out how a single run down The Pod gives rise to such a title??
No doubt it was a quick car, but i'm confused as to how that claim is genuine? Not sure what Mods the car has/had, but all i've seen is it puts out over 500BHP & lbsft, which hardly makes it even close to being the highest outputs of certain UK RS6's. I know mine was over 560BHP & lbsft & was a saloon so lighter. MTM had a car putting out just over 600 BHP & it had been on a diet & collected some CF so had shed a good few KG's, plus i know of other cars around the 550 mark when i had mine.
Given the cars are not known to have very strong Tip boxes (i shed 2) i never saw the attraction of the Drag Strip for obvious reasons & chose to run VMAX's or regular track days.
What modified RS6's has "The Fastest RS6" run against? How many RS6's have logged times/speeds at Santa Pod?

RE: Was It The Fastest RS6 In The Country??
Have you got some dyno plots of the 560bhp run?
I see AMD stage 3 is upto +70bhp and 70ft/lbs of torque. More like a 520bhp car?

Re: RE: Was It The Fastest RS6 In The Country??
Had many plots & they were posted up on here when i had the car, as was most of the modding detail as i went along. IIRC at it's highest state of tune my RS6 was 556.4BHP & 564.5lbsftChrisS2 wrote:Have you got some dyno plots of the 560bhp run?

This was way back in the original AmD days & TBH the mods went more than a tad further than JUST AmD's Stage 3

I've modded most of my cars over the last 5 years & the RS6 was the one i got carried away with. The car was well known back in the day, but was never run down a drag strip. I doubt mine was the fastest/quickest as i knew a couple of other UK cars that were closer or on the 600BHP mark, including the MTM & Sportec cars, however that level would have required double my modding investment, so was too rich for my blood for the extra 40BHP.

as the car had alot of Sportec hardware on top of the AmD/Milltek kit, including oversized Intercoolers, engine & gearbox Oil Coolers, carbon fibre ducting, bespoke piping & a very trick RamAir system amongst other mods.

That will have helped things. To get the extra 100bhp is not cheap tho!

TBH Chris, if i had my time again i'd have stuck at Stage 1/2 with 510ish which cost around £3K & saved the best part of £7K that the extra 50BHP cost. Although fun at the time, it was not really worth the extra outlay & i'm just glad i stopped there as to go the extra 40-50BHP to top 600 would have cost at least a further £12K

dont know if your refering to my old Rs6 or not. But when i did my run at the pod there was some guys there testing some software for a new gps quarter mile thing. They stuck it on my car and along with santa pod time etc they was testing to see how accurate it was. Well the result was that it recorded a time 0.02 faster than the pod time so i guess very accurate!
It was these guys who told me along with the staff they was working with at santa pod that the time i ran was the quickest time ever run at santa pod that has been recorded for the a RS6. They had also had something to do with a timing of a run of i think MTM's RS6 that had over 600Bhp and aparently my old RS6 ran half a second quicker than it. I have no idea why this is? Maybe tyres, better driver, better engine map puting the power out, gearbox map better? Who knows!
I never did anything to the car while i owned it. But when i brought the car the dino was at 512bhp and 513 ftlb of torque. However the car was supposed to of been given more power since the dino plot with no new plot to go with it as i belive it was mapped on the road?
Anyway why dont some of you lads get your cars down the pod and see what times you run. Im sure there has to be some very fast RS6's out there! Or at least post your time with a ticket!
O and a link to some drag times http://www.dragtimes.com/compare2.php?m ... Compare%21
As you can see, my old RS is alot slower than all the others on the 0-60feet (no traction on day) but after it gets some grip it pulls back the time and speed and is going quicker (mph) than others that have quicker time. I would guess with a good launch it would be below 12.5 seconds.

It is indeed your car i was refering to, but i still fail to see how one run at Santa Pod makes a car the quickest in the UK??mattysupra wrote:dont know if your refering to my old Rs6 or not. I also struggle to believe that with the MTM 600BHP monster was slower by 1/2 sec, but if it was then you can be sure that was not down to the car in any way as not only was it over 600BHP & similar torque, but it was lightened by around 200KG, so physics states that unless they pushed it down the drag strip, it can't have been slower than yours.
It's only the quotes i have issue with, as the same arguement could be used for VMAX, as my RS6 ran the highest top speed ever recorded for such a car which IIRC was 182MPH through the timing beams, but given only a couple of other RS6's have ever run VMAX & i think both of those were only Stage 1 or 2 then it's hardly a shocker, but doesn't make my car quicker than the MTM or Sportec ones, just because they never entered the event.
Fully believe your car is quick & it certainly stands out with it's styling, but as said before, the gearbox in an RS6 is not it's strongest feature, so throwing it down a drag strip & pulling insane launches is at best a good way to lose a few thousand ££'s so i for one never chose to abuse my RS6 in such a way.
You can't really make such claims without proof & knowledge of every other RS6, so the quote should be perhaps read "fastest RS6 out of few RS6's that have run down Santa Pod strip".
Good luck with you're new project & i'm probably being pedantic about your claims, it's just every time i read it on Tinterweb i think to myself "how is it the fastest in the UK?"
I'll get my coat

im only passing on info that was told to me. Like i said before " im sure there quicker ones out there " I was supprised when told what it had beat. Still i have not seen it with my own eyes.
I disagree on the gearbox abuse on the quarter mile tho. Im sure every one has floored there RS6 every time they get in it! Of course if you was to give it a daft launch ( holding the brake on ) then yes it might break the box! Im not that stupid to do that. You only have your foot to the floor for 12 seconds and to be fair there is less grip at the pod than a normal road so it will spin the wheels rather than gripping and putting every thing under load. I would say your box takes alot more abuse on the road when it jumps from 3rd to second or even 2nd to 1st and grips! And people say track days are not as abusive compared to quarter mile. I have never had a car break on the quarter mile but gone through a couple of gearbox's, half shafts and loads of difs on the road in my drag car!
And to be fair i dont really abuse my cars on the road. The RS6 was pampered out on the road and only had the odd blip here and there.
Anyway, why dont you all get some times in!

Believe me, the gearbox is not strong. Flooring it off the line/lights won't do any real damage for quite a while, but to get a good launch for Drag, simply flooring the loud pedal at Green will not produce great times, given lag etc.mattysupra wrote:im only passing on info that was told to me. To get a good time you'd have to be holding the revs around 3Kish on the brake & then release at Green, thus being in the boost zone from the off. This believe me would fry the clutch very quickly as the RS6 like most ubber wagons is not designed for such abuse.
I've tried such launches in the E60 M5 & my current RS4 & they do produce quite stunning results, but i'd have never tried this in the RS6 & after 2 blown boxes i'm glad i didn't.
Like you rightly say, it's not designed for track action either, however that's more akin to hard road (excluding the brakes) than drag racing.
Yours was a good time though, but i feel alot of RS6 owners would not agree with chucking their car down a drag strip, so it would be difficult to benchmark similar cars in different states of tune.
