I'd love to go along to the dealer with my parkers print out. But seriously, I guess that the values must be fitted to a defined depreciation curve, with refinements to the curve based on volumes of sales and the information gathered from those sales. I'd guess the volume of ferraris sold is a couple of orders of magnitude lower than RS6s (and maybe 10000 lower than an e.g. focus) so it is almost expected for it to be significantly wrong. So (and this is only an example with numbers, I'm not trying to be exact) if there are 100 ferraris sold a year, and the price is accurate within £25k, then if there are 1000 RS6s sold a year then the price is within £2.5k (data is 10x better as there are 10x more sold) and if there are 10000 sold a year then the price is within £250.
This is the tricky bit for me - as a buyer, what else do I have to guide me so I don't feel I'm paying over the odds. More to the point, what does a seller have to benchmark against other than ultimately more than a dealer will offer you for it? I can quite understand why, as an owner, you feel that the car is worth what it is based on the performance etc. I guess if that is the case you don't sell. Personally, I think that the risk of increased petrol prices in the future is being built into car prices right now. I'm going to have similar issues when I go to sell my TT, and that's only a 3.2. That's worth £16k private according to what car (I can't be bothered to search high and wide right now) but I saw one (admittedly higher mileage than mine) for £16.5k in the dealer a few months back.

I looked for about 3-4 months and finally settled on an 04 Avus Avant with RNS-E (later nav) it had done 28k and i paid 28.9k if i remember correctly that was from an independant dealer which is unlike me as i always buy privately but the price miles and condition all swung me.
I have had it maybe 3-4 months now and fully expect me to struggle to get 25k if i tried to sell it privately.. I still see cars for sale now that were when i was looking, they were overpriced then and even more so now, in my opionion buy from an enthusiast who knows the foibles, tyres, brakes, cambelts, DRC are all huge considerations, as are warranties..
Go and look as at many as possible and keep a good eye on the classifieds
I am not deluded about residuals but just take your time, and at the moment the mkt for big gas guzzlers like the Rs6 is not huge but there will always be an enthusiast market for good examples, so if iyou want mine for 26k give me a shout

i spent months looking for mine, looked at some at 20k upto 35k. There really are some shitters out there! I gave good money for mine owing me over 30k but it is absolute mint condition with low miles and fully tuned by AMD plus other stuff. I have had it about 8 months and am struggeling to sell it. I have 5 guys who want the car but waiting on them all to sell there cars first so they can pay me! I have now dropped mine down to 23k which is a true bargain for whoever buys it.
Basically you get what you pay for. If you buy cheap you normally end up paying twice, but it is also not wise to pay to much. Its at the point now where i might just keep it and buy me another A3 diesel for using around town and keep the RS6 for the weekend.

LOL, not really but to be fair i would consider the deal if it worked my way, all i would do is sell the tt on which means its more hassle for me. I would much prefer for you to sell it and then we can crack a deal. But saying that, out of all the p.x's i have been offered so far i guess your TT would sell easyer than other p.x offers i have had so far!GeordieMike wrote:I'm guessing you don't want a (relatively) economic TT & cash!
Send me some info about the car i will think about it if your intrested in mine.
Sorry to keep this going but (predictably) haven't had a vast amount of interest in the car. Now decided I'll consider px of an A6 or BMW 5 series maybe... just incase any knows of anyone interested.

Surely the value of your car is whatever people will pay for it? There is no inherent value to these things, linked to the original purchase price. Depreciation is a fact that follows the markets and trends.
I've always gone by the theory that you can never guarantee or rely on any car's value! Be prepared to lose the whole lot - I'm afraid it is a car, not an investment...
