Here goes

Post by Fun and games » Sat Jan 21, 2017 10:25 pm

Well after many years of contemplating a b7 rs4 avant I've final decided it's time, we've just had a baby and the wife wants me to buy a practical car with a big boot and isofix, boom, I have the perfect solution, I've looked at 4 today but still can't find what the perfect car, my budget is £20k Max, under 90k miles, obviously service history and records of maintenance etc, ideally in mugello blue and wingback seats, Am I setting my standards a bit high or do I just need to keep searching?

Welcome along.
FON

.

There are a few full stops for you

I'd have thought there are plenty of them for around £20k (although not muggy blue)

Edit _ looks like you may need a little bit more monies.
previous- Pug 205 gti, 306 gti, 309 gti Goodwood.
Audi S3, S4 V8 avant.
Porsche Macan Turbo.
Gone but NEVER forgotten - C5 RS6 Misano red avant.

Now - Empty garage

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there!

2k more and you could buy my old low mileage Mugello from DK. I spent 10k getting it where I wanted it, including preventative maintenance, etc. Fantastic car and I miss it massively. Honestly I think you'd be hard pushed to find a better one if you can stretch to it.

It's a great car, and a credit to Marc and Paul who owned it prior.

I bought it as the Mrs daily driver once baby comes, but change of plan and getting a M140i on a cheapo lease deal

Someone's hacked DKs account!!!!!

-5 when I started my car this morning. Got stuck behind a girl in a 320d that was tip toeing along. Quattro + winters is the best option surely on your daily driver baby wagon?

The car is too precious to be trashed by my wife

I don't think my OCD could take it

A brand new 335PS M140i for £300 odd quid a month, zero deposit

Fair enough! You'll be needing a set of winter wheels + tyres though! A 'square' set up is the cheapest option on the 1 series. As you already know, there's always a demand for good OEM wheels when you hand the car back. I sold the winter alloys I had on my S4 for about £20 less than I paid for them three or four years previously. There's a few '35 + '40 owners on Tyresmoke.net which the MK meet started from, some on [wife proof] steelies, some on alloys, some just swapping same-sized winter rubber onto the factory alloys

That's a beauty, looked at a lovely black one today that's local, I wouldn't be able to get up to Staffordshire until next weekend and it may be gone by then, I'll crack open another beer and have a think.

I don't think I could ever trust / buy from a garage that lists the price, and then in the small print

"All vehicles are subject to a £80 admin fee."

I'd also love to watch them try to point out the "panoramic roof" & "Electrically folding mirrors"

The privacy glass listed is really an aftermarket tint too. Drivers seat looks knackered as well.

Personally I'd want to buy a car from an enthusiast, where I can clearly see the documented maintenance over and above standard services history. These cars are expensive to run and maintain to a high level and there's a fairly good reason they are available with regular traders...

Ask them when the DRC, aux radiators and oil cooler were replaced. Equally the same for perishable rubbers, gearbox and diff oils, etc, etc and that's not even mentioning the obvious look outs...

Ticks all the boxes, especially the mileage, my trouble is getting to see it before the weekend, just to be clear, this is a car one of you chaps has previously owned?

Taken from another thread I've just read, but totally sums it up...

In a perfect world I'd like to replace the current Saab 9-5 Aero Hot Estate with a newer one of 2008 or 9 vintage, in black with <100K on it.

I'm also tired of travelling halfway round the country to look at dealer cars that are in "immaculate condition", such as that V6 Passat to find they're utter turds too.
In fact, every used car I've ever been to see at a dealers has been a dog, I always end up buying private and getting a better car for it.
