Hi All,

This is my first Audi/German-made car, been with the Japs for sometime . I have had the car for 3 weeks now and it's been brilliant. I wasn't quite blown away by the performance as I had anticipated, besides its handling, but it is adequate ^_^ (carbon build up maybe hampering performance).

I have noticed however that the offside driving light flickers on occasion, the car has adaptive lights - wondering if there is a problem with the motor. Also, I appear to be losing coolant (could this be water pump or auxiliary radiator).

The car has 90000 miles on it but it had one owner and it was apparently very well looked after (lots of receipts and service). I have 12 months warranty from the garage so will be investigating this.

I would like to do a health check on the car but as I am in central Scotland, all the renowned places a quite some distance away. Any recommendation for a good place in Scotland?

the water leak will likely be the Aux rad to rectify this find out which one is leaking (hopefully just one) as you can change the sides as removing the drivers side allows for the cold air feed mod and these rads are interchangeable

head light flicker will likely be the bulb to do this you need to remove the bumper to get the light out and if you plan to change the rad then the bumper needs to come off so get that head light done at the same time & I would recommend changing both headlight bulbs at the same time

for your lack of performance carbon build up might be an issue @ 90k quite possible are you feeling the VVT kick in at 5250rpm if not then you might have some other issue like a vacuum leak or similar, not sure about places to go in central Scotland I believe there are some garages but I cant remember their names

Thanks. I took the car out for a run yesterday and it does go well. I revved it past 6000rpm in third and I felt a noticeable kick at just over 5000rpm. I presume that means the VVT is working fine.

yeah it kicks in about 5250RPM and there is also a flap in the air box that's pulled open at this RPM with a vacuum some times this flap can stay shut which will dull the power

If you've come from a turbo charged car then you will certainly feel underwhelmed by the performance as I did. A quick look at the speedo when in full flow usually reassures me that the car does actually make some serious 'progress' but it's extremely smooth and linear.

Welcome. As Richie says - if youre used to a turbo'd car then it will take a little getting used to. I came from turbo'd hot hatches and was a little underwhelmed with the RS4 initially as well, but as said above, its a much more linear and smooth process to get to silly speeds.

As for the coolent leak - yoy can unclip the fog light surrounds to have a good look at each aux rad - you might be able to see the corrosion without having to pay for the 'exploration' look at a garage.
