Hi everyone, just finally signed up so just dropping my first post to say thanks for allowing me to join. Not an owner yet but been keeping an eye on the classifieds as thinking i'd like to upgrade my sensible peugeot 407SW for on of the fast A4 avants - probably one for next year when cash allows but just doing my research well for now.

My other P&J is a TVR tuscan, which seems to provide plenty of opportunity for me to dispose of any cash I have sitting around that I dont know what to do with :P

I know there are plenty of threads on the merits of the B7 RS4 vs the B8 S4 which I have been perusing. If anyone else happens to own a TVR speed six engined car and either of these S4 variants as well i'd be interested to see what you think. The RS4 was the reason i thought I might go audi, but then I wonder if its sensible to own 2 cars which can be prone to their need for a bit of TLC and slightly more involved ownership experience

Anyway, great to find a place with so many dedicated enthusiasts for the marque. Seasons greetings to you all!

Cheers

Rick

Amongst other cars ive had...

Griff 500
B7 rs4
B8 rs4
B8 s4

The griff and audis are completely different beasts, they all have 4 wheels but it stops about there. For me the griff was about Le Man hooning and hot summers day. But it broke down all the time and bits fell off it at random. Driving is like a go kart vs a bus. They are very different.

The B7 i bought first and to drive ive never eaten so many A roads, with complete confidence and it flattered theability (only other thing like this was the integrale I had). But... it was 2014 and the tech felt dated, it was quick, but it was 7 years old and it felt it..

So.. i bought a 2011 s4. I couldnt justify a b8 rs4 at the time and convinced myself the s4 would be ok and it was.... "ok". Fact was, it wasnt special enough, did everything well but it never got me.

So i went for it.. picked up the b8 rs4 and despite all the purists moaning about the steering, the drc, whatever. It was and is a very special motor and worth every penny.

My advice:

If you want a daily fun drivers car, push to the b8 rs4, you wont regret it.
If you are getting a second car for A road hooning and cant afford the b8 rs, then a b7 is an excellent choice, but not as an everyday car.

And sadly, id leave the s4. Its just not worth the premium over standard a4s imo

Enjoy the hunt, whatever you do!
