S4 1st couple of days

Post by S4tune » Fri Oct 21, 2016 7:56 pm

Just bought a RS4 in grey 06 plate B7 , after a couple of days noticed a few niggles , flickering xenons at night on low beam but hardly any flickering when full beam is used there is condensation in the headlamps and the car has been standing for a month of two maybe frequent use will burn the dampness from the headlamps will give it another couple of weeks and then looks at ballasts or bulb replacements. It has Audi long life history serviced at 20k ,40k ,60k 82k now on 100k so oil change is next priority i can get Shell Helix 5/40 full synthetic pro for £44 for 10 litres on a mates trade account meets all the audi specs. Slight knock on osf suspension when turning and accelerating new upper lower suspensions arms fitted last year costing over £800 so i suspect it could be CV joint / driveshaft or possible engine mounting , also when the car has been used above 4,000 rpm noticed a slight whiff of engine oil through the air vents , normal use there are no oily odours , doesnt appear to be any oil leaks and an invoice for £280 for new rocker gaskets and half moons last year is with the car.

First impressions ? Surprised at the basic spec , no cruise control , no folding mirrors ,no sunroof ,no heated seats , but impressed with the standard recaro seats , bluetooth/satnav , and that brilliant V8 motor the car appears very planted on the road and sure footed , just sold a E46 M3 so not used to the rear end staying were it should be !

Not doing any mods to the car just gonna get is completely sorted and some decent tyres (it has barums on the front ?) car has only had 2 owners from new and just had a pair of new front wings under the Audi 10 year rust warranty

Just averaged 27mpg on a motorway run at 75/80mph so not as bad as expected , driven sensibly mostly today until an Audi A7 3 ltr diesel decided to drive 6ft from my back bumper ,so dropped it to 5th and left him about 100 yards behind pulled over to slow down and he passed me doing about 120mph and flashing the V's in my direction, some proper saddos frequenting our highways , (no doubt he will be in his local boozer tonight bragging how he blew off an S4 today)

Its a weekend car , got my Mondeo ST diesel estate for the daily grind , the B7 is a great looking car understated in grey and black leather a great Q car (unlike my Magenta Cozzy were everybody wants a traffic light grand prix race)

Apologies for the long winded first post , the forum looks full of good advice maybe someone can suggest a solution to the oily odours when the car is highly revved and the slight knocking when turning and accelerating to the right , thanks in advance.

Long life, gulp! Its only ever had four services? :(

Please don't put 5W40 into it! I sold my car over two years now, I think from memory it runs 5W30, check the manual!

Enjoy - fantastic cars - I had mine four and a quarter years and loved every minute! :kissmyrings:
