Long Time B7 RS4 Admirer

Post by DAIR » Fri Jul 22, 2016 10:03 pm

Hi All

Names Daniel.

As the title suggests I've always admired the B7 RS4 (in both saloon and estate form... More estate). Unfortunately, I've never driven or been inside one - Im hoping that'll all change within the next few months, and if I can find someone to insure me - Despite being 31!

I have a few questions for you all -

[*]How serious is the carbon deposit issue? Whenever I tell people I want an RS4 I receive the "Hmmm you sure mate?" kind of response.
[*]How much are good examples going for at the moment?
[*]If/when I do bite the bullet and decide to purchase one. Would one of you hold my hand whilst I view the car? lol

I just want to make sure I have all the facts (rather than myths from those who have never owned the car) before I finally get this car.

Thanks in advice

And thanks for some of the great pics. Loving it!

I think the whole carbon thing has been blown out of proportion. If you can accept that the car has about 390ps as standard rather than 420ps then it is not an issue and the car will happily run without any cleans. If you want the full 420ps and are happy to keep having it cleaned then fair enough but 400ps with a few mods and an engine full of carbon is fine for me.

I'm starting to think that too. Since coming across your site, I've not seen seen many complaints..

Dair, I'm in Barnet also, near west lodge hotel. If you're ever around there let me know and I'd be happy to take you for a blast.

Hope you're not from London.... I highly doubt you'd have much fun driving people through London's city streets lol

Hi all

I just wanted to know whether I should be put off by cars with more than 100k on the clock?

I only ask because I've never owned a fairly old car before (nothing older than 3 years iirc).

There are a few B7 forum members here in the 100k+ mile club (me included).

There are quite a few important maintenance issues on the B7, so, more important than mileage, is finding a car that has a meticulous maintenance record. Obviously if you can find one that also has low mileage, then jump all over it!!

Put it this way, if you find a low mileage example, and then later find it's got DRC issues, leaking aux radiators, needs a new clutch, leaking oil cooler, needs new front discs, etc then it won't be looking like such a good buy!

When I bought mine, and speaking to MRC tuning about what they knew about the car, I also asked if there were any specific concerns at 100k - none.
