Hello all from essex. C5 rs6
Re: Hello all from essex. C5 rs6
Sorry to say this but Bam is right.
A few of us have fitted tow bars for towing relatively light things. Mine tows a pair of motorbikes to race tracks occasionally (~600kg Inc trailer) and tows beautifully. However this isn't technically legal, I got the tow bar listed on insurance but the vin plate lists the max towing weight as zero, so you could be in hot water if you get in an accident or pulled over.
There's also the potential to harm the gearbox and drc suspension when towing a heavy thing like a caravan.
Whoever fitted it knew this as no reputable tow bar installer would touch this car when I was asking around.

The RS6 didn't, the A6 did. Doesn't mean you can't tow with it. Your choice. Don't expect insurance cover it in the event of an incident or the gearbox to last very long. I could be wrong on both accounts though.
No matter where you go, there you are.
Re: Hello all from essex. C5 rs6
Thanks for the info guys.
I will do some checking.
When I plug the connectors in I get a orange light on the dash like a triangle and circle.
On log book says 0 previous keepers which is worrying me at moment.on the photocopy dealer gave me.
I'll ring dealer now and Adrian flux

Audi said it would void warranty as not rated. So they explains why I have a extra oil cooler behind rad
Adrian flux said they need speak to u under writers .

Re: Hello all from essex. C5 rs6
I wonder what the light means, mine doesn't do that as a the power comes from a relay box powered directly from the battery, sounds like yours might be hardwired in and taking extra power from the lighting circuit. Might upset the blown bulb warning thing, if that's whats going on. Just speculation on my part, would be worth checking it out.
The no previous registered owners thing is strange tho, hopefully it's just an error on vosa's system.
Let us know what you find out
Edit:
There's no warranty on these old beasts anyway so that's a moot point, legality is more the problem.
I'm very interested to hear what Adrian flux come up with, thanks for phoning around.

Re: Hello all from essex. C5 rs6
Ok.
I rang the dealer regarding why no previous owners. He said its because. It's a photocopy of the logbook from the first owner from new.
So when I get my copy he said it will say 1 previous owner.
The orange light is not the bulb one. It's near the handbrake light on dash and looks like a trailer more than a triangle.
The tow bar was fitted by aud.
Preston audi said it was fitted by them.
I asked about the thing in the handbook regarding not rated for towing.
They said they will honour the warranty as it was fitted by them.
I have 12 months as it's a main dealer.
Waiting for adrian flux still...
She said never heard of not being able to tow with a audi before.
Obviously she not heard of rs6

Ok.
Audi says mine was fitted with the tcm. Trailer control module.
And the light should be green arrows not yellow. So they saying I have a bulb or light out on trailer.
Still waiting for insurers response se

Re: Hello all from essex. C5 rs6
Wow that's an astonishing bit of luck! You're the first person I've seen with an Audi fitted tow bar.
Well, if you get the green light from insurers just be careful with nose weight and it might be worth doing some preventative maintenance by looking into getting the gearbox serviced if it's not been done before. The fluid goes bad and they eat themselves eventually. (disclaimer: be aware that if it's already close to failing, changing the fluid can cause failure sooner)
Audi will likely tell you it's a sealed for life item, most of us get it done at a specialist like MRC Tuning, unit 20.. A few others provided they know the procedure.

Hi mate. Do I need do all this.
Audi did full service and cam belt before I picked it up.
I got a invoice says internal.cost code.
3336 Omg
Says rollers and valves lots on here.
New shocks all round.
Calipers.
Cars almost on 69000 miles now.
You got me worrying.
Is it all additional to what audi have done I need ask.
I got a one year main dealer warranty so surely I not need worry about anything.
I'm only going Spain to bring back my caravan to sell not to go camping etc.
Only thing needs doing not covered is the discs all round pited
They are all drilled.
I'm looking for second hand set.
Then I git to read rules so I can sell my navigation plus cd.
Unless there is like a 200 post rule thing like the maserati forum

I'm not saying you definitely need to do anything, just that the gearbox is a known weak spot and I felt you should have some info on it. Towing will put added stress on it so even more important you know, even if it's just so you can be mechanically sympathetic. At least you've got the year of audi warranty, no need to worry too much until that's finished I suppose.
Enjoy the car and I hope you have a good trip to spain.

Cheers buddy.
So far so good.
Yes it's a audi main dealer.
Done lots for me.
I seem to have a button on mine so suspension settings.
Can't see it doing anything though.
Lights up ok.
I'm going to get rid of the ski bag thing as well. It's never been opened lol.
I need some brake discs as not under warranty they said.
Prefer part used ones as only keeping car 12 months

Re: Hello all from essex. C5 rs6
How did it go? I'm thinking of doing the same this summer. I've always wanted to go on a caravan holiday with the family, we're thinking of Cornwall some time in July. Ideally I'd like to hire one a trailer from here https://www.campanda.com/rv/trailer ,as I can't afford to buy one, and we're not sure if this is going to be just a one time thing or a regular holiday. I guess if we do it again we should consider buying, but for the mean time we will hire. Would be good to know if the rs6 would pull a trailer like that before we hire it , not sure if the company will let us take it for a test run. How did you manage? I guess if it doesn't work we will have to hire a caravan instead, would rather that than buying a new car Lol!
