RS2 owner saying hi

Post by ColonialNomad » Tue Mar 24, 2015 1:57 pm

Hi

I signed up on S2 recently so thought I might sign up here too in the hope I might find some advice and pointers for spare parts.

My RS2 is being taken care of by Dean @ Four Rings in Dartford, it needed a few things looking at.

Now that's what I'm talking about. Keep us posted, I'll be watching this thread with interest.

Any plans for it, is it standard currently?

It's an RS2, did see an S2 coupe yesterday though, very rare.

Looks superb. Nogaro is THE colour.

The S2forum will definitely be your friend for parts. There's also a register. Does your have sunroof, carbon interior trim, full black leather, later airbagged wheel and the Quattro GmbH brakes?

Thanks gents :)

I haven't had this car long - only a month and the previous owner had it in storage since 2011. Previously I had an imola yellow 8L Audi S3 for five years in NZ and loved it (apart from the understeer which was an irritation).

This is a standard UK spec car - drivers airbag, sunroof, roof rails, 10 CD shuttle, carbon trim interior etc. with 85k on the clock. I'm planning to keep it as standard as possible although I may succumb to a remap at some point once I've got to know the car a bit.

It needs quite a bit of work doing to it but all relatively easy stuff including:

1) New disks and pads all around (old ones were heavily corroded, rear caliper was seizing)
2) New fuel lines
3) New fuel tank straps (if anyone knows of an uncorroded set, please drop me a line otherwise I'll probably get a set in carbon fibre)
4) Corroded exhaust box
5) The front sub frame was loose which resulted in wheel alignment issues and I had to replace a piece of wheel arch trim
6) The offside front CV joint needs replacing
7) Front offside wishbone bushings need replacing
8) Underside intercooler ducting is missing (NLA also - not sure what to do about this, maybe CF if I can find someone with access to an original?)
9) Handbrake is only just legal (a common issue)
10) Sony hifi fascia doesn't secure, the nearside front speaker doesn't work, rear tweeters are d/c (have a replacement Pioneer head, kenwood seat sub and Focal speakers lined up)
11) Central locking system remote doesn't work (may yet try replacing the battery!)
12) Rear offside passenger window doesn't operate
13) Rear ashtray lid is broken
14) Front ceiling light switch is broken
15) No spare wheel (and missed out on one on Ebay recently for £149!!)
16) No jack/tool kit
17) Clouds of white smoke coming out the back while warming up- mechanic suggests the wrong oil may have been used but will also check turbo condition.
18) Rear wiper doesn't work or squirt - lines to unblock and switch contact to check
19) Front wipers don't automatically lay down when switched off and if left on after the ignition is turned off, they continue to drain the battery - possibly a relay issue.

Also need to check timing belt as I can't find a reciept for when it was last replaced.

Mechanically, the engine is still very strong (thankfully) and I'll post more photographs later this evening.

Welcome! That's a lovely looking car mate, once you get everything crossed off the to do list it'll be a keeper for sure!

Re the white smoke during warm up.. Are you sure it's not just condensation? Look at the edges of the cloud, if it disappears then it's just water vapour and normal. Smoke from burning oil stinks and has a blue tinge to it.

There's definitely an oily smell to it and a slight blue tinge. I took a video of it on my mobile for reference later so may upload that also. I've also seen a decent puff of smoke behind in the rear view when I've put my foot down to over take.

Thank you Sir. You have some very tasteful motors yourself...!

I had a sit in a 2010 RS6 a while back. What a monster...
