Newbie from Glasgow Area

Post by bunter6 » Tue Aug 05, 2014 8:40 pm

Hi Folks.

Back in an Audi after about 10 years & in my 1st S Model.

Just bought a 2003 S4 in black.

It was cheap but then that's because it has lots of little niggles some of which seem to be common to A4/S4's.

Headlights Always on - replacement switch ordered as the originally is worn and scabby looking anyway and it might be a cheap win.
Headlight Range Adjust faulty - waiting on glove-box coming before i take out the old one and again try for a cheap win by re-seating the controller cabling.
Glove-box hinge broken - replacement ordered
Leaking passenger side cam cover gasket - new pair ordered may as well do both at the same time.
lower front grille missing - trouble sourcing as everyone just wants to sell you a complete bumper :?

As I say it's all niggles & nothing major, mechanically the car is sound & apart from having gone a bit flat and having a little rust on the osr arch the bodywork is good too, so i'm more than happy to fix these foibles for the enjoyment the car is giving me :D

It's kind of the spiritual successor to my favorite previous Audi I owned which was a 90 Quattro 20 Valve Sport which I had from 1998 till 2001. It was Also black & also put a grin on my face :D

Looking forward to getting it all ship shape and having lots of fun in her. I've not got any decent photos of it at the moment but here are a few from the dealers ad & a quick snap i took on my phone when it got her home.

Cheers mate :)

Got my new light switch today but it didnt fix my always on problem but handily my Vagcom cable also came today and after some footering about i discovered the light sensor was disabled for some reason. So after setting this to on ta-da my lights are now going on and off as they should.

Vagcom cant talk to the headlamp range controller though and reseating the cabling for it as recommended made no difference, so I've ordered a unit fro ma breaker off eBay and we'll see if that works, if not then it's up on a ramp it goes to check out the axles sensors.

So all in all not a bad day, got the main lights issue sorted and got to tinker with Vagcom/VCDRS.

If you ever need a wee fault code reading on that awfy nice RS4, i'm just up the road from you in Coatbridge

Lol I'm relatively old school myself my 1st motor was a Sunbeam TI with twin Dellorto's that went out of balance about 2 miles after they were tuned  it was quick but the rust was quicker

Ahh points and condensers i had a fiesta runabout with those, it didnt like damp days much.

Good to know there's a few of us about the area too

Oooffft I bet she goes some  You must get sick of all the local Scoobs wanting to 'challenge' you. I had a WRX then an STI myself & went to a few meets, the tall tales some told about the power they were pushing was quite funny.
