Hello - new S4 owner

Post by RoyalMile » Tue Nov 29, 2011 7:03 pm

Hi all and what great site!

Picked up my B6 S4 avant tiptronic a month or so ago and love it. I test drove two manuals first and decided on the tiptronic because it seemed more docile in traffic and more relaxing on the motorway thanks to it's higher final drive. I was originally hoping to find a good B6 3.0 Q Avant but they all seemed a little tatty and had significant body repairs. I'm guessing the 3.0Qs were more likely to be used as a workhorse whereas the S4s are probably (hopefully) owned by enthusiasts who are happy to splash out. I live in Scotland, and think of the motor car as a great freedom rather than something to take for granted. Our congestion-free roads and amazing scenery make for rewarding motoring and the full-time 4WD means I don't need to plan for a nice day. Just throw the tent in the boot an go. I'm sure the S4 will be a great replacement for my 2.8Q.

Best wishes and happy motoring

Welcome mate,

Glad you're enjoying your car. Sounds like you took your time to get the one you want.

Where abouts in Scotland are you from?

Always had a soft spot for the B5 A4 2.8 quattro, incredibly smooth, feels quicker than the on-paper 193 bhp suggests. Obviously 344 bhp is a different world......

Thanks, I'm Edinburgh based. I'm an IT contractor so I have to work all over the UK. Working down in Southampton at the moment, back to Scotland for Christmas, a nice long run in the S4!

Here's my Avant:
100% stock. Metallic black with 9 spoke rims(from factory). Interior is silver with piano black dash/door inlays. Most of these cars seem to be pretty well fully loaded, this one has Sat-nav, coolbox, seat storage, auto lights, cargo straps/hooks/net/liner, paddle shift, auto dim/heated exterior mirrors, auto dim interior mirror, rear blinds, ski bag.
