Hi
Sure you'll get alot of responses!

I've been looking at both also, having come from an S4 Avant. The RS4 is obviously slightly older and therefore likely to have covered more miles. The RS6 is bigger generally all over, and is quite a lard arse, but has masses of power, quite expensive to maintain too.

How much is your budget?

RS4's are generally going anywhere from £12-13k upwards, although these will be older/higher milers (90k +)
RS6's are going from £14k upwards, again generally higher milers (90k +).

Alot depends on your budget, whether you need a larger car, etc etc...

Have only been in a '6 before and they are amazing machines. The RS4 would be similar, but probably feel quicker due to it's size?

probably looking up to 17k roughly, car maybe used for work purposes from time to time.
I drive a van day to day so both will feel quick compared to that but the extra size and weight compared to track car will be huge( rx7 1150kgs 475 bhp). I hope to still do some track stuff and for that im sure the rs4 will be better for that, however I maybe wrong?

Tracking a Six will prove costly with respect to Brakes - Pads and discs and Tyres
They arn't called Beasts for nothing!

But for carrying a sofa / mattress / dog and pissing off other 'fast cars' its great.

Just my 2 pence worth

I've had both the B5 RS4 and the C5 RS6, in fact I've just sold the RS4 to get back into an RS6 Avant. Personally I prefer the auto gearbox and the dimensions of the 6, simply as I spend a bit of time on the motorway and I'm now too lazy to change gear!

Although don't get me wrong, I loved the Rs4 - if I had the money then I'd have both of them. The stupid fast, big luxurious 6 and the more responsive 4 to throw around every now and them....shame I'm not minted - so one had to go!

As deano says above - tracking the 6 will cost arms and legs. 'Apples and pears' is the real reply mate although my only real advice would be to buy the one that suits your 'standard driving' needs. And if you get a 6 then get a warranty - or set aside 1.5k to get the suspension sorted (or clearly get one that's had the DRC removed). If you get a 4 then make sure that the cams aren't battered...a lot of them have been abused.

As wraffers says above 6 and warranty to reduce the pain

after goin to look at both a 6 and a 4 and after driving both i was still torn between the two.

6 has the automatic, awesome sounding v8 bags of room really thought this was the car but then i went to look at a stunning rs4 which spoke for itself.

both are great cars. im considering both just depends which will be the best available when i sell my divvy jeep

Thanks for the replies all, I think i need to get and have a test drive in both, seem to be leaning towards the 6 at the moment and forget track stuff for a while until I can justify having another tack only car.
