TELEFON or PHONE

Post by Dr-Al » Fri Sep 21, 2007 5:48 pm

For those of you with hands free kits, a quick poll:

When you have an incoming call, does it say TELEFON or PHONE on the display?

Car year and radio model (Concert, Symphony etc) would be useful as well.

Mine is a 98 with a Concert and it displays TELEFON. I have heard speak of PHONE being displayed, but I want to confirm the rumours before I spend a lot of time with VAG-COM and/or Google tring to change mine to something in English and not a made up word that happens to be convenient because it fits on the display!

Yeah, I know, it's a bit anal but, if you knew the aggravation and expense I have been through to get this bloody kit to work through the car audio system, you would cut me some slack and allow me my little OCD tantrum...

TELEFON is not a "made up word" you fish-fiddling loon! It's German for telephone ...

Yeah, I know - the Germans are well known for making up words for things if they don't already have one. TELEFON was made up just because it made the best use of the B5 DIS without having to go to a smaller font size  . I'm ENGLISH dammit, so I want my dispay in ENGLISH! :<beep>_you:

I've had enough of Johnny Foreigner putting F's where there should be PH's - we used to call it 'Sulphur', but Yanks took their bats home, so we now have to spell it 'Sulfur'. [But then you should know all about that! I'm sure you have the MSDS on hand for all your inmates' information and safety.]

They may be F'ing things up elsewhere, but not in my car they don't!

I looked into this on my old '6 with the concert unit. No one (at Audi or any of the techi forums) knew of a way to change it.

Sorry I guess that doesn't help.

Cheers!
