Car kit - bluetooth or hard wired?

Just got my RS6 2003 model ...it has an old Nokia phone wired in the armrest which I guess I could get another sim for...however this wouldnt be the most convenient

after a bit of research it would appear Audi only support a limited range of handsets here and definately not a SE P910i that I use.

So im wondering what everyone else does that uses their car for business etc - do you have the official factory bluetooth phone kit ...or will an aftermarket (Sony) bluetooth kit work just fine?

I have Nav+ with TV etc - just wondering if an aftermarket one will interface properly with it all ....theres a big difference in price between a dealer fit kit and aftermarket !

I have a Nokia bluetooth system (Nokia 610) interfaced with my Nav+ - initially with the original CD-based Nav+, now with the DVD system.

I have a hard wired Nokia with an interface to the Symphony head unit.

On my 2003 RS6 I have the dvd upgrade nav with Tv and bluetooth all fitted by 'craigyb'. Bluetooth works superbly and with the businesmiles i do well worth the investment and saving on a head on collision. No need for a cradle etc either which is good.

Bogie - I Was kindly sent a 6210 by a forum member, which suits me just fine, as long as I remember to take the SIM out of my SE before I get in the car! You mention getting another SIM - presume that would be a different number?

I'd love the bluetooth option, but craigyb is just too far for me considering how much I use the car. And he seems the only guy in the country who can do it. Heard very good reports too. Amazing when you think about it, Audi design and build a system that enables us use the MMI to make phone calls, yet no one in the entire company knows how to make it work.

Bob, I run a second pay-as-you-go phone/sim in the armrest and just set my Blackberry to divert to it when in the car. That way callers don't need to know the car number.

the problem for me with a PAYG sim etc is that I make a lot of international calls and my phone is fully expensed for business ...i wouldnt want to do a 30min call to Taiwan on PAYG

presume there is no such thing as a cloned SIM? so you can have two handsets with the same number?

You can have multi-sim. I had it with Vodafone. Both running on same number but you send a signal to Vodafone to say which phone to direct the call.

So getting into the car I had the code saved and would send (call) it. Then getting out of the car you send the signal again. Worked great until you forgot to do the swap.

This is not an option for me atm as they can't do multisim on a GPRS phone, which the Blackberry is.

I guess the most appealing options is the Audi DVD upgrade with Bluetooth etc - but where can you get this from - a dealer?

I have the DVD system, but no dealer I called had a CLUE how to do bluetooth. Said it was impossible, (despite the unit having a big button with 'phone' written on it) so let us know if you have any luck, the more I think about it the more it amazes me that only one person in the UK knows how to make this thing work and he has nothing to do with the company that invented it.

Went up to Craigs yesterday - top service - 4 hours later Im kitted out with RNS-E, Bluetooth phone, TV in motion and a Phatbox ...Im really chuffed with it...the RNS-E is much more intuitive to use than the old system - thanks Craig.

The bluetooth phone is really easy to use ...had some fun with it today as the girlfriend was following me - shes in the RS and im in my Elise ..and every time she pulls up behind or beside me at the lights, my phone (thats in my pocket) is pairing up with the RS ...most confusing until I figured out what was going on
