This one might be better off in the electrical section but I've got a 98 S4 avant with the single DIN bose head unit, what's the best way to wire an ipod to it? I'm mainly looking for audio hook up initially, I can make it pretty later.

The BEST way would be with a Dension IceLink, but quite expensive.
If you want to rig it up yourself, you can use the CD changer lead as shown here

...more to the point, they made a Misano in 98? I had no idea.

I thought they were all laser red, but to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if there was a misano. I didn't think we got any casablanca whites over here and I was proven wrong just last week.

that denison widget looks pretty cool - any recommendations on where to get one? ideally online for much cheapness

I just ordered one from the audiworld classifieds. Ended up costing me about £70. If you pay regular retail though you're looking around the £100 mark. Try

If you pay much more though you're into phatbox territory, which I reckon is a bit better.

phatboxes do look cool, saw them a while ago but then saw you had to cut the cover in the boot as the cartridge is too long - is there any way around that?

Perhaps install it in your glove box instead? This is what mine looks like:
but it is in a B6:
The trick is to remove the external "pseudo heatsink" chassis and throw it in the bin where it belongs... (ask Craig if you don't believe me).
